A very good book. It explain every aspect of Mobile hace bases in a simple way.

very good for beginners in Android world interesting tips and hacks ! but I think the examples are out-date !

I had a smart phone that ran on an earlier version software. I bought this book as a primer to understand how to upgrade the phone software as the manufacturer was not going to upgrade. Some of the information has become obsolete but with further research it helped me upgrade my old phone.

Book is formatted in such a way that it helps beginners looking to understand how to customize their cellphones.

Hits the basics or rooting and changing ROMs. Was looking for a little more depth on some subjects. Nice for beginners

This book bills itself as a "complete guide to rooting roms and theming". It is far from complete. I was hoping for something that went deeper into the internals of Android. This book is not it. Much of the information is pointers over to the XDA developers forums. If you have installed Cyanogenmod or any of the other replacement roms for Android you already know 90% of this book. The retail price of $35 is not worth it for a small format book that barely hits 170 pages. There is definitely a need for a book that covers the internals of Android, as well as how to modify it to fit your needs. Unfortunately this is not that book. You are better off reading Android Forensics: Investigation, Analysis and Mobile Security for Google Android . It covers more of how everything fits together under the hood.

Okay for the NOB...yet very limited. Needs an index to other sites (e.g., Slateroid), Custom ROM's and doesn't mention TWRP Recovery, only CWM. Does not discuss CWM based on SoC's e.g., A13, A10, A20, A31, Rockchip, etc.

Aber wie viele solche Bücher unredigiert, also manches doppelt, manches ohne Erklärung, halt nicht von guten und ausgebildeten Autoren, sondern von Geeks. Ist ok, aber bei Büchern erwarte ich - old fashioned - mehr Nachbearbeitung. Egal - endlich ein Buch über 'wichtige' Themen, Rooten, Recovery, und ähnliches. Insofern, wenn es ginge, inhaltlich erfüllt es die Erwartungen (5 Punkte), stilistisch nicht :-)

What can I say about this book? Do-It-Yourself Tutor, Brilliant author, Easy-to-follow guides, etc. In fact it is my Bible so long as Hacking Android is concern. I am now confident in choosing the way I want my Android device to be. Considering the benefits you acquire by using this book, the price is right for me.

This book it seems to be pretty decent book explains to you the nuances of what a cell phone is I happen to be a very computer literate and can quite grasp the concept of a cell phone but I did need a little bit of help the operating system is a Lennix operating system so for those of us who understand Lennix really well should get full benefit of this book I learned a lot of things but haven't quite finished the book yet for those of us who want to really understand their android device this book is worth a look. I hope that this review helped her of the quick points 1 it will give you a better understanding of your android device 2 it'll explain to you why you need to route your device 3 how to route your device and so on it also gives you warnings on what could happen before you try to attempt to route your device I rooted mine before I got the book so I want to understand more thanks bye for now

Das Buch beschreibt kaum die Zusammenhänge und Hintergründe. Es bleibt sehr oberflächlich. Im Wesentlichen wird nur eine Einführung in eine Unix Shell gegeben. In keinem Falle eignet es sich, um ein Gerät selbst zu "rooten". Das Buch hilft nicht, die Risiken selbst einzuschätzen, noch gibt es konkrete Informationen zu Notfallmaßnahmen, falls etwas schiefgeht.

Bought it to de-mistify the rooting process. This gave me the confidence to go for it. I now have a rooted Nexus 7. Reading the book enabled me to understand why the process the first time didn't work, and how to get the rooting to work properly.
