what is the issue of using this longer than a week if the dentist cant schedule you for longer?

I would think they're assuming if you use/need it longer than a week straight, it could be a serious situation and would expect you to make every effort to get to the dentist.

What is the shelf life for this product? i'd like to have some around, just in case, because i doubt i would want to go shopping if i need it! :)

Good question. This product doesn’t have a specific shelf life. The expiration date is stamped along right side of back panel and imprinted on the bottom crimp end of tube. We do not recommend using it once the expiration date has passed.

how well does it work for pain from braces?

I have used it myself for braces as an adult and I allow my tween to use it as needed. I prefer the topical gel over ingesting pills.
