Southern Fermenting Sauerkraut Tamper, Pounder. Made in the USA. (double ended walnut)

Who would've thought a humble tool such as this could bring so much joy upon its discovery in an Amazon box? Musings aside, this is a beautifully crafted sauerkraut tamper. The wood is very solid and absolutely stunning; I took a chance on this second quality lot and am not in the least disappointed with my choice. Although this particular tamper has a slightly uneven grain and a pair of small knots (which give it a unique character), the entire surface remains solid and will not affect its function. I love the fact that the wood itself is US-sourced so that there will be no funky pesticides or chemicals introduced into my ferments. The fine woodwork that went into its making is reminiscent of the arts and crafts period. It will serve me and my family well through the years.

I like to use this for making kraut, but I also like to use it for making a large batch of lemonade.

this is a very nice, solid made, all wooden piece. It works great for pounding down your veggies when fermenting. Love it! Thank you for providing great quality! I love made in USA product.

Says it's a "second" but I don't see any flaws. Love the smell of the raw walnut as well. Worked great on the kraut.

Recently got into fermenting, and this tamper is perfect for packing down my ferments. Either end can be used to tamp, but I use the fat end more. I oil it occasionally with olive oil. Even though the description says these are seconds, mine has no imperfections whatsoever. Beautiful tool.

I just got done using this for the first time and I absolutely love it. Not only is it beautiful, it looks like an elegant pepper grinder sitting on my counter, it does an excellent of packing my sauerkraut into jars. I am very happy that I ordered this!

I have a couple of major problems with this tamper! First, as soon as I received it I washed it with dish soap, warm water and paper towels...a LOT of stain came off on the towels. So I washed it again....and again...and again and STILL had a LOT of stain come off on the paper towels. There is also a small hole (like a knot that was removed) deep into the main part of the body that will, of course. accumulate food particles that will be hard to remove. I don't want that stain coming off into my food...nor do I want to have to worry about what is growing inside of that hole that may transfer into my food. Stay away from this inferior product!!!!!!

Perfect for making kraut in all sizes of jars. Cleans easy and doesn't hold a scent.
