Deodorant Stones of America: Thai Crystal Deodorant, 4.25 oz (Pack of 2), Packaging May Vary

Deodorant arrived January 31, 2025. I’m writing review after 2 weeks of use. For decades I used unscented gel stick deodorant and antiperspirant (Dry Idea & Mitchum), and they both worked great. In a strange conversation with a friend the topic of skin irritants came up. And along with it the topic of deodorant. I wasn’t looking to switch brands or type of deodorant, but what my friend was using intrigued me. He had been using this brand (Thai) for over 8 years. The idea of using a salt crystal that feels like a stone, and appears to deposit nothing on your skin sparked my curiosity. So, I bought it just to experiment. I couldn’t tell from the Amazon picture the shape or size of it, so I included it here. According to my friend, the stone lasts for years, we’ll see. I hadn’t read a single review prior to purchase. When I decided to write my own review , I went back and read other reviews to see what issues people had. Here’s my experience with the product. First off, this is only a deodorant and not an antiperspirant. I never really liked the idea of plugging up my pores anyway. The stone is only affective if the stone and / or the skin is wet (very damp) when applying. I found out very quickly that for this stone to work you need to throughly and repeatedly rub the stone over the skin. The stone glides so smoothly over the skin that you don’t feel like you’re doing anything. What takes 3 seconds with stick deodorant to apply per side, will take 20-30 seconds with this stone to be affective. At first I used the stone like a stick, maybe spending 5 seconds per side. It did not do a lasting job until I increased the application time to over 20 seconds per side using a wet stone. It doesn’t seem to be necessary to wet the stone more than once. But it does help if applying after showering. I like the very clean feel of what seems like nothing under my arms. It is winter here in Wisconsin so I’m not perspiring like in the summer. However, I have been exercising shoveling snow, and hiking, etc… The stone has kept me odor free when applying daily. Though I haven’t had to re-apply it, I could imagine it necessary if perspiring for hours at a time, as it doesn’t stick to your skin like gel antiperspirants do. This deodorant stone has no smell at all. Even unscented stick antiperspirants have a little something. I wear mostly cotton shirts, and what I’ve noticed if I sweat, is kind of a very faint cotton linen smell. Kind of refreshing from the usual chemical. I haven’t used it long enough to know if it will yellow cotton shirts under the arm like other deodorants can, but it seems unlikely. Though I haven’t experienced any issues, here’s a few precautions from other reviewers. Don’t drop the stone or it can crack. Don’t store wet stone with cover on. It can mold. Hold stone not the base when applying, or the base might come loose from stone. As long as I throughly rub the stone over every square millimetre of skin and even extend the application slightly beyond the underarm itself, it has been very effective. I am impressed with its effectiveness and pleased to use a product without aluminium and other chemicals. I will continue to use this deodorant stone and see how it goes when summer comes around. I like to say, “I’d buy again” but, with its projected longevity, it might be awhile. 😀 Update - March 2026: Well… here it is 13 months after I started using this Thai deodorant salt crystal. So how is it going? It has been very effective. So much so that I threw out my other stick deodorants. I have never had to reapply in-between showers, even during hot weather or sweaty activities. The deodorant is lasting a very long time as my friend had said. The second photo I just posted is comparing a new Thai stone (left) to the one I’ve been using daily for 13 months (right). Not much used as you can see. Long lasting for sure. My shirts haven’t experienced any off color or odor. No reaction with my skin whatsoever. The stone has not molded, cracked or separated from its base. Though I haven’t dropped it either. Very pleased with this product. By the time I use up this 2-pack, I’ll forget where I purchased it. 🤔

I've tried many deodorants - natural and antiperspirants with aluminum. I tried alum crystals many years ago without success; but I recently saw a YouTube video explaining how to use them properly. So I decided to try again. So glad I did. I keep the stone in the shower and apply after I've washed. I make sure my armpits are very wet and I wet the stone. I rub the stone all over my pits. I count out 30 strokes for each armpit, but often continue beyond 30. The goal is to coat the area and create a seal to prevent sweat eating bacteria. I also make a few swipes under my breasts. I rewet the stone between armpits. Then let it air-dry. That's very important. Don't towel dry nor fan your armpits. Let them dry on their own. Understand that for this product to work your skin must be clean and wet. Consider shaving and applying rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer to get rid of sweat eating bacteria before showering. I didn't have high hopes but I received excellent results. I notice no smell at all! With Lumē there's the strong scent of the deodorant, and eventually the funky smell of BO. When the alum crystal is applied correctly there's no odor at all! This lasts until the next shower and application. I'll be sticking with this affordable, effective option.

Since puberty I’ve struggled with BO, the kind that I’d have to shower every hour if not for deodorant. I tried everything over decades resorting to shaving and cleaning with boiling hot water. I’ve tried every natural deodorants with no success, they just put a fragrance on top of the odor which is honestly worse This stuff literally works. I don’t know how, it feels like nothing is happening, it’s literally a chunk of rock with no chemicals, yet I can smell my BO disappear in real time. It doesn’t stop sweat which worried me at first, however for the first time in my life my sweat doesn’t cause bad odor. After a whole day traveling and walking in the Sun, my girl said my body odor strength was 0.5 out of 10, which is impossible even with commercial deodorants. Another benefits is it doesn’t cover up my natural smell, it simply just stops the bad odor. I even apply it onto my BO and the BO goes away in a minute If you’re on the fence, just get it. This is a life changing product for me and hopefully your body responds the same way

Welcome to my novel!!! So, I first heard of these in the 90's and thought they were a trendy gimic...they are the real deal and I am blown away! I have been spending a small fortune to hunt down the only deodorants that were working for me and even those made me smell horrible in less than 4-6 hrs of application plus they will not wash off my armpits let alone my clothing and they are ruining my bras! So, I decided to try this brand of crystal deodorant and I was in shock after I put it on and 6 hours later I still did not have any odor. I have been using this since I bought it a few weeks ago and each day I think "okay, it has to stop working now", but it has exceeded every expectation. I wanted to use this for at least 2 weeks before posting a review so I could be honest about the results. The positives are this is so cheap compared to store brands that seem to have changed into absolute garbage, it is easy to use, it does keep odors from developing and it has even made my underarms softer and easier to shave in the shower. I am not even getting razor burn anymore! The only negatives, if you can call them that, are that it does take longer to apply than store brands because you need to wet, rub, re-wet and rub again then make sure you are dry to feel confident you have a good application. I have been doing two applications under each arm and I apply it until there is no more moisture under my arms at all and this has been the most effective process for me. I keep rubbing it on even once the water is gone from the stone until it no longer glides on my skin then I re-wet it and do it again. I keep my arms up or use a small fan to be sure I am completely devoid of any moisture and then I find myself sniffing like 100 times a day waiting for a stink that doesn't come (yes, you can laugh but you will do it too). I also find that you 'feel' like you are a wet when you actually aren't...let me explain that though. Salt softens and your armspits will not tug or stick anymore so they feel smoother and it takes a good week to realize it is not a grease or oil it is just silkier skin that can breathe that is causing that feeling! I suggest wetting only the top 1/2 to keep it in the base because logic says if the bottom at the base wears down it will come out of the holder and this lets you grip the stone. Always rinse that top 1/2 off well with water when you are done then gently wipe it off and place it in the container upside down (again just to prolong the stone attachment to the base). My daughter is now only using this as well and she too is amazed at how great it works! Two last tips in case you are still reading my novel! I find that if you start to sweat, since this does not have antiperspirant additives, just get a paper towel or tissue and blot the moisture and you are good again...if there is any odor try taking this with you when you are out and do a quick touch up. Also, if you are worried you will be out in public and want a confidence booster put about 2 drops of an essential oil like lavender or tea tree on a cotton ball or even on the tip of a q-tip and do a light dab in a few spots to give you a nice scent. Test out any oil first on your skin since some are harsher than others but lavender and tea tree are clean smelling and effective. Check online for which oils are the most gentle or least likely to cause irritations because even though oils like cinnamon and cassia smell wonderful they are well known irritants to the skin.

I've been using a salt crystal deodorant for decades. You have to wet it to use it but once that water dries, which doesn't take long at all, it's as if you don't have deodorant on, yet it still works. And it doesn't clog your pores or stain your clothes or any of the other things you get from regular deodorant. I have to qualify the 'works' part of the statement. This is NOT an anti-perspirant. It is NOT strong chemicals. The salt kills the bacteria that grows in the moist, sometimes wet, underarm area. But it has limits. To start with, you don't put a lot of the salt in your armpit so it can be overwhelmed with bacteria. It can be washed away with heavy perspiration as most deodorants can. But I've found that it last as long and works as well as other deodorants in controlling the odor.

Over all, this was a good product. However, I live in a very hot summer climate (over 100F daily for 3-4 months), and it just couldn't cut it for that. I had to switch back to my regular deodorant. But will probably come back to this once the weather cools off. It feels like you're not feeling anything, which I love. Not sticky. No stains. It did take about a week for me to feel like it worked well. And I felt like it only worked when I used it after showering. (I am a SAHM, and don't necessarily shower every day... gross I know. But it is what it is). If I hadn't showered that day, it didn't mask anything. I felt like I got a solid 24 hours out of an application, but then after that needed to shower and reapply. Overall good. Love the feel. I will start using it again when it cools off

This stuff is amazing!! I have been searching for a deodorant that works and that I'm not allergic to for years! I have a propylene glycol allergy and it's hard to find deodorant without it, much less one that works! I've tried so many deodorants that failed, I was skeptical to try this. First off, if you've not worn natural deodorants (non-chemical) then you have to know what to expect. Your body has been absorbing those chemicals that block your pores to prevent you from sweating. Those chemicals don't come out over night! It can take weeks or months for them to work their way out. They are toxins in your body. While the toxins are coming out, they will cause an odor. This is what makes you reapply normal deodorant. You sweat out some toxins under your arms and it stinks so you put more deodorant on to cover it up, creating an endless cycle. So, when you start wearing this, you will stink as your body gets the toxins out. Once that has happened, you will notice how this product works. It actually kills odor causing bacteria (not chemical odor). It does not prevent you from sweating (maybe slightly). However, sweat isn't what really stinks, it's the body odor from the bacteria. Your underarm sweat will smell like the rest of your body sweating, which usually isn't too offensive. To apply, just get the stone wet, then rub generously all over your underarm area. This is different than most deodorant where you do a couple swipes. Rub it around with 4-5 passes. Rinse the stone off and put the lid back on. If you don't rinse the stone off, you'll notice that any underarm odor you had might stay on the stone. These stones seem to last forever as well! I've been using it for about 3 months and it's gone down maybe 1/8 of an inch. I expect this to last well over a year! The best part is, there's NO RESIDUE! If you already wear an organic deodorant and you've gone through the sweating out the toxins part, then you'll notice the difference within a few days! Also, I have no concern that this will ever stain my clothes as it goes on smooth and doesn't leave any residues. Say bye bye to pit stains and deodorant stains! TLDR; Try this product for a month before you give up on it! It doesn't stop you from sweating, but it does stop body odor! No residue, no stains, no smell. The only negative for this product is that it has the potential to break, but don't worry about it!

I was worried there was going to be an odd (smelly) transition similar to the transition from anti perspirant to natural deodorant but there wasn’t - I asked people constantly if I was smelly. I have bought a second salt stick cause I dropped and shattered mine after almost a year of using it. Definitely recommend.
