Review: Woodworkers’ Secret - If you’re a woodworker or restore antiques this is your secret weapon to a perfect finish. Prep and sand your project as you would if you were going to stain, then substitute the Briwax for the stain and watch the magic happen. I’ve learned the best way to apply this is to follow the grain of the wood and then get your Karate Kid on…wax on, wax off. I buy cheap microfiber car wax applicators and dampen them VERY slightly to apply the wax, then use old cotton or microfiber towels to buff the wax. The wax makes the grain on the wood stand out much better than stain and buffs to a shine without the need for varnish. Two things to be aware of: 1. You can over do it with the wax. Don’t apply a thick layer in one area. Think about waxing your vehicle. If you over apply, it will gum up and give you a dull finish. 2. As much as it brings out the grain in the wood it amplifies flaws. If you have excess glue in your joints, the wax will show it, if you missed an area sanding or have a small Brad nail head exposed, the wax will show it. That said, I rarely use stain any more, this stuff is my favorite. I have a number of pieces in my home that have been in use for 8+ years and have never had to retouch them and they still have the same beautiful texture and shine. Granted this is more expensive than stain and it can be a little sloppy to work with (wear latex gloves) but the results are superior.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you have to put a poly finish over top to seal?**
A: I wouldn't. I don't know for sure but have a feeling the poly would melt the wax. This is a wax you rub on a small area and then buff. The brown wax color will slightly tint the surface. There are some good YouTube videos.

**Q: What is the shelf life of this product?**
A: I have a can that is 30 yrs old and still has the same properties it did when new. As long as the can is sealed, it'll keep for years!

**Q: If I use the dark brown on raw light(pine) wood, will the result be even like a stain or would it turn out blotchy? My intention is to darken evenly.**
A: I turned an 8" segmented pine bowl on my lathe about a year ago. I sanded it to about 500 grit. A medium coat of the wax produced a beautiful semi-gloss finish. I buffed it with a paper towel on the lathe after letting it dry for about 10 minutes. I am quite satisfied. There was no sign of blotches and it turned out at least as dark as oil based stain. I've used Briwax Original (no color) for years. This was my first time with the Dark Brown. It reminds me of soft shoe polish. It produces a finish that might be called Dark Walnut. I quit after one coat because it looked so good. Start to end time was about 20 minutes.  Oil stain would have been hours. It's now been several months and it looks and feels as good as the first day. Yes, I would recommend it.

**Q: Would this be appropriate for an antique piano?**
A: I use Briwax on an antique table that is about 150-200 years old.  This does a beautiful job of waxing and staining at the same time.  In time the stain lightens but just give it another coat.  Test it out on a small patch.  I think you will be pleased with the result.  I personally like the dark stain as it comes closer in color.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deep, rich, lustrous color

We used Dark Brown BRIWAX to finish the shelving and door in our newly-built pantry. The color is deep, rich and lustrous. We chose not to add any sort of poly over the top, so we may encounter a scratch down to wood from time to time, but it's super easy to simply add a little wax to that spot (like shining a shoe) and the color is fully restored. We're really happy with the result. We used a different color of BRIWAX (Antique Mahogany) for our Cast Iron Wall; everything turned out beautiful. We're now finishing a fire place mantel with the Dark Brown and it's coming out great. We've included a before & after of the door, in the photos. We would definitely recommend BRIWAX for any wood finishing project.
