Review: Excellent - I got this book last minute for a trip to Slovenia where we planned to hike in the Julian Alps most of the time and spend a short amount of time in Croatia in transit to SLO. However, the weather turned bad so we had to cancel the Croatia leg and the hike in Slo. This book helped salvage the trip and included helpful (and we found accurate) assessments of sights to see to make the most of our time. Also included is a summary and background of the politics and conflicts that have shaped this part of Europe which was very helpful and interesting in understanding local sentiments, though most of those we interacted with were not of an age to have lived through any of it. I assume the Croatia content is as good as the SLO. Highly recommend! Review: Wow. In preparation for our trip, I bought this and the Lonely Planet guides. With the exception of a few different restaurants, they provide the same information. The difference is there's more of it in this book. Walking tours, transportation suggestions, guide tips, more info on side trips from the major cities are all valuable features. A worthwhile investment. On a related note, using this book, I finally took the plunge and started consulting his website. I traveled these areas on a organized tour but had free time to explore with some of the others on the tour. The information was excellent and very helpful.
