A Number of New Features Contribute to a Substantially Improved Coffee-Drinking Must-Have
I purchased a Cauldryn Fyre when it was first released last year, but found myself using it primarily to maintain the temperature of my coffee throughout the day. When Cauldryn released this model designed specifically for coffee drinkers, I was intrigued enough by the additional coffee-focused features to give it a try. I am glad I did, as it's clear that the makers put some thought into what exactly coffee-drinkers such as myself were looking for. First of all, the bottle is substantially lighter than the Fyre Mobile. I'm not sure whether this is from improvements in manufacturing, or whether they can simply use a lower-capacity battery when there is no need to bring water all the way to a boil. In either case, I have never come close to draining the battery even with a full day's use. I really underestimated how much having a lighter bottle improves the daily experience, and this alone could make an upgrade worth it for those who carry their Cauldryn around all day. Second, you can now select any temperature you'd like to maintain your drink at. This is huge! I've really enjoyed playing around with this feature to hone in on the exact temperature I like to drink different coffees at. Along with this, it also has a nice LED readout that tells you what the temperature is. The lid on this new model is also a bit different. Personally, I prefer this lid to the original, as it seems to have a better "feel" to it. I'm not sure what else I can say about this, I just wanted to note that this is a difference between the models. This model also features a removable base that makes this a modular unit that you can add different accessories to. For example, I see that they have a coffee grinder attachment. I have not used any of these accessories, but I do like the idea of being able to easily expand the Cauldryn to find new uses. Finally, there is an app that you can use to control the Cauldryn remotely. I plan to use this to start heating the water while out for lunch in those situations where I want a single-cup pourover when I get back to the office. All in all, I am very happy I decided to purchase this new model of the Cauldryn. It comes in at basically the same price point, and with additional features that really add to the experience.

Nice improvements, well designed.
I like techy stuff, and I bought their first bottle 5 or 6 months ago. Loved it, worked exactly as I had hoped. I use it primarily for keeping my coffee warm at work or during my drive to work. I also have used it to heat up water for my french press and for freeze dried meals when we go camping. So I saw they are making a second version now and I ordered one. It arrived today, only took 3 days to arrive. I didn't think there was much that could be improved on the 1st version, but I really really like this new one. Love the digital screen and push button controls, so I can set it at an exact temperature, and buttons are easier to use that the first one. It comes with a smaller lighter battery, but I checked and the larger battery from my first one fits this new model just fine. I also really like the new lid, easier to sip from. I'm sure I'll keep finding more things I like, and hopefully nothing that I dont, after I've used it for a few more days. Anyways, I love it. 5 stars for sure.

It works well and last all day for coffee. Impressed!
I expected it to be junk but I looked at reviews outside of Amazon (since they can be suspect) and it was generally positive. The only thing I might change if I were designing this would be that it holds about 20% more volume. Whether that mean making it taller or a little fatter, I'm not sure, but as it is it's still a great coffee mug. The battery lasts all day for me, and I keep the temp at 145F for coffee. I would't recommend trying to boil water in it from room temp, it would take some time but it will eventually get there. It's great at keeping things hot that were already hot, like coffee. I'll update the review on how it performs outside in freezing temps. A CAUTIONARY NOTE: Don't try to remove the seal on the heating element. (see photo) It does come out, but you'll have a hell of a time getting it back in. You'll have to disassemble the component to allow heating element to come out of the housing in order to reseat the seal. It's doable with some ingenuity and resourcefulness, but I don't recommend it. (see some comments on doing that at the bottom of this review) They get a A+ on customer service. After I unknowingly made the error of removing that seal to clean the coffee crud out, they responded the same day and sent a replacement element for the error. A generous move for what was my own error. If you end up needing to reinstall the seal - (The nuts holding the heating element at the appropriate height are covered in vinyl or silicone, like liquid electrical tape, you'd have to get that stuff off to loosen the nuts and free the element, but remember to recoat it so the bolts, which probably get very hot, don't melt insulation on any of the wires that might make contact inside or ruin other internal components. When reinstalling the element, make sure you took note of the approximate length the bolt protruded through the nut when you removed it. This is in order to make sure you get a good seal when reinstalling it with the seal reattached, too loose and it could leak, too tight and it could warp or damage the element and end up leaking as well. It's not something you want to tighten down firm at the nut, you're gauge that you're there is a proper seal of the silicone seal not the tightness of the nut on the bolt)

Not as advertised. Performance and design lacking
Great idea, but not nearly as advertised. I bought three of these units for our managers to use, on day one the charging port cover broke off mine as another reviewer has noted. The cover is an extremely tight fit and quite frankly a bad design. The unit is very thick and wide and the base does not fit in some vehicles. It barely fit in my f350 dash holder. The unit does come apart for easy cleaning, but you need to follow the red sticker that tells you to be careful when removing the battery to not remove the heating base also (all liquid inside will quickly drop out onto your hands). The first day I already noticed that the battery stopped keeping my tea warm after a four hour drive around the city. I looked down and the unit was already turned off and when I started drinking the tea it was already lukewarm. I had the setting at a hundred and forty five degrees. So the second day I decided to make it a little bit more scientific in testing. They claim it keeps the drink the same temperature all day which is clearly not going to happen unless this unit stays plugged in all day. 8:55 p.m. I turn the unit on to a hundred and forty five degrees. I had already microwaved my tea to be above that temperature. I took the temperature 5 minutes later with a trusted immersion thermometer and it read 10 degrees off from what the reading was (135 only) I tested this two more times and it almost always registered 10 degrees off. By 12:40 the battery was completely dead. I had only opened it twice to test the temperature with the thermometer. I did not drink anything out of it so it was completely full and the bottle was kept indoors in the office with an ambient temperature of 70°. I will be returning all three units as it clearly does not perform as expected. Update: I went back to a Contigo and yojirushi vacuum flask and those kept it the same warmth as this unit for the same 4 hour drive. I think the screw-on base drains a lot of the great away from the inside fluid.

Hot coffee when you need it
I bought the Cauldryn because I drive long overnight stretches and there is nothing like reaching down and grabbing perfectly hot coffee when you need it. The other similar products have very short battery life. This bad boy performs as advertised. Keeps things at temp (within 5 degrees or so). Battery lasts 8+ hours for me. I imagine it would go to 10, but I keep my coffee kind of on the hot side. It WILL boil water if you need that. Downside: it's a little big. I don't mind the height of it but the girth makes it hard to fit into standard cup holders. When the element kicks on to heat up it makes some noise, not much, but in a quiet room folks will here it. Neither are deal breakers for me.

Real objective review of pros and cons
I own the Ember mug now for at least 6 months which worked ok for drinking tea at work but was very excited when I saw an alternative that keeps my drink at the desired temperature "all day". While I think this product does have a few advantages over the Ember, I was overall very disappointed. I was particularly upset that none of the prior 28 reviews mentioned any of the limitations below, probably most had nothing to compare this mug to. Pros: - Seems to have good battery life so far. I only tested this today, but I tried to drain the battery by adding a few cubes of ice 16 oz of tea several times and the mug was able to bring the temperature back up to 140 without completely draining the battery. This is not something the Ember would be able to accomplish every twice. - 16 oz fluid capacity versus 12 oz for the competition - Good vacuum insulation - Stainless steel with ability to separate the components for easy cleaning. - The lid is easy to use and has a good "feel" to it. - Simple to use, with clear instructions. - Can separate the battery to charge separately and still use the mug. Pros - Really large and heavy (check the dimensions listed carefully and compare to other mugs that you own). This thing is huge. - Design: this thing looks ok if you are taking it to a camp, but using it at a professional office environment definitely seems awkward. The competition has a more slick elegant professional look. May not be an issue for most users depending on your primary use. - Function: I tested the set temperature at 135 initially (without battery saving feature). The heater would only kick in automatically when the temperature drops below 120, would overshoot to 137-138 then let the fluid cool down. This is a wide temperature range and is not even close to the advertised function. During the cycle, tea is at the desired temperature for < 20% of the time. I tried to set it at 140, it will cycle between 125-144 F, which again is awfully wide range. I tried the battery saving feature which would widen the range further to 116-140. Note that I have tried the competitor mug and it truly keeps temperature within 2-3 degrees (but for only 1-2 hours at most). - Sound: every time the heater kicks in, you will hear a bubbling sound and the whole mug would start vibrate on the desk (comparable to a phone vibrating on a wooden desk). This does happen every 10-15 min but would be disruptive if you are at a meeting for example. - The iphone app seems to be half finished. It tells you "your drink is ready" even though the current temperature is 126 and the mug is set to 140. You have to pair the mug every time you open the app!! Very primitive and poorly designed compared to competitor apps. - The LCD screen is always on (does not even dim when not used) and there is no way to turn it off. - The mug only shows the set temperature and not the current temperature. If you turn the battery off and then on again or if you change the set temp, the LCD will show you the current temperature for one second and then go back to the set temperature. It would have been nice to have the option to show either or. - Too large to fit most car cup holders I am going to keep it because I will still find use for it when camping or at home, but unfortunately this is not the perfect smart mug I was hoping for... You can decide for yourself if this will fit your needs better. I will update my review if I encounter issues with durability or battery life in the future.

AMAZING Capability
This is an amazing product, it is not perfect but is by far BEST IN CLASS. My family now has 3 and we use them in a different ways. 1) I am an avid sailor and wanted a product that was rugged, portable and would allow me to make hot drinks, soup etc without hardwiring into boat or only using in a fixed location. I tried the competitor and found that they had very little heating capability, short battery life and the cap leaked. Because of this experience, was reluctant to try Cauldryn but am glad I did. It performs admirably and has solved all my problems. Spoke with Customer Service (very helpful) and am going to purchase the optional larger battery for extended life. My mother is an avid tea drinker and just had serious knee surgery, which immobilized her. We got her a Cauldryn and with a couple bottles of water and extra tea bags she is able to brew away without bothering anybody. She uses the AC base and the App. Her comment on the app was that it would be nice to be able to check the temperature more easily-especially when her nurse started her off with boiling water. Customer service advised that the app is being completely redone and this function is being added.

Easy to clean and very portable.
I love this mug with a few exceptions! First, I think that the bases, both the homebase and the battery base should have some sort of nonskid rubber on the bottom. My granddaughter kicked the cord earlier, and I was afraid it was going to go flying, and grabbed it just in time. I also think that while the battery is great, a way to charge it on the go should have been included as well. I purchased the vehicle base for long trips. That was something that was important to me, but wasn’t included. It’s easy to clean, though some people might think it’s a pain, the reason for it makes sense. You don’t want to get the bottom of it wet, as that’s where the buttons and the LCD are. The app could use some accessibility updates. The temperature wheel does not work for those who have to use screen readers, such as voiceover, built-in to the iPhone. You can go up degree by degree, but when you need to go up to a high temperature, it’s not all that easy, or efficient. I have more important things to do than sit there pressing a button for 187°, degree by degree for example. all in all, it does what I wanted it to do, which is why I rated it five stars. It would be more giftable if the price wasn’t so high though.
