Panasonic KX-TGM420W + (2) KX-TGMA44W Amplified Cordless Phone with Digital Answering Machine Expandable Upto 6 Handsets and Voice Volume Booster 40 dB

I ordered these phones for my mother to replace her old wireless phones. She is hard of hearing and this phone has a much louder ringing volume than her old phone. She can hear it ring, even without her hearing aids. She likes that she could turn up the talk volume, and it was louder than her old phone so she can hear the person on the other end. It has many features most of which she will never use, but the ones that she will use I’m sure she will enjoy. She likes the fact that it has a bright red light that blinks when the phone’s ringing in case she does not hear It. It was packed well and the shipping time was quick and I am happy with my purchase.

UPDATEAt the end of the orig review I mention that I'm going to purchase the model 45 extra handset for its additional amplification. I did.IT WORKS SUPERBLY. All features function exactly as the other model 44 handsets. SLOW BOOST PHONEBOOK CID everything immediately and just fine.Do note that the extra 10db amplification only applies to handset use not speakerphone.At first I couldn't tell much difference between volume setting 40 and 50. But when I watched my mother use it I could see the difference in her face and how she held it. No more pressing it hard against her face, so 10db is worth it's priceyness.On the handset web page is where Panasonic should make it clear that this model handset isss backward compatible.One other thing to note these handsets are heavier to use than standard cordlesses. The model 45 is even heavier than the 44 but worth its weight in gold giving a hard of hearing person their social life back.If a person needs even more than the 50db boost, the base, with its bigger speaker, is where sound is clearest and loudest.One great valuable product.ORIGLet me jump into how much I love this and then why the title.Bought it for my mom who was just too dangerously isolated because she can no longer hear with a regular telephone. That means she can't even access 911. Caption phones are too big and have no extensions so a user has to converse sitting in one location by a tel jack and nowhere else in the dwelling. Hearing aid was a bust. Trying to use the PocketTalker with phones is cumbersome. No wonder companies that make those portable voice amp don't even mention using them with telephones.Finally I spotted amplified phones with T Coil functionality [that way if we find a hearing aid that does work this phone will continue to serve her].THE GOODIESA. Wonderfully big clear screen text. Every home phone I've bought for 30+ years has BIG TEXT on its home screen but shrunken light grey characters as you march through menus or enter a long name. Those screens aren't normally shown in product ads. This phone displays big high contrast letters and numbers no matter what its screen is displaying. I added pics with and without flash.B. Totally DARK when not in use. I prattle on about this in all my reviews on electronics. These handsets have NO LIGHTS ON when the unit is not in use. The little chargers have no charge lights. So NO red green nor orange steady nor flashing anything in your bedroom. We are grateful as heck. I don't have no deploy black tape nor black construction paper on this device to cover up anything. The part with big lights constantly on, is the base station and I have that nowhere near bedrooms. So unless someone is calling 💤 tight.C. The INTERCOM: So clear its a dream come true. Only neg is ya can't shut off its ringing no matter what ringer-off setting you enact.D. Its TALKING feature also outstanding. When she heard it say ZERO her face lit up. Something as simple as that. Calls out each key as they are touched in a vibrant clear female voice. Does the same for items in the phone book, call history, and handset names as you scroll to do intercom calling. Its not very good at the pronunciation of names. It calls our nurse Gere (pronounced like Jerry) GRRRRRRpronounces Brea Califonirnia, Bree Ay C, but its perfect with numbers.E. I love that you need only set up the memory buttons on one handset. All handsets mirror the programming.F. CID is a true call history list. On some phones like a VTech DECT cordless only the last call from the same number is kept in history. On this Panasonic if the same number calls you five times it shows in history 5 times. Yayyyee.WISH EACH HANDSET HAD 5-ONE TOUCH SPEED DIAL BUTTONs though. A memory button is not the same as one touch calling.One Touch anything is good for the elderly or disabled.And I wishI had bought the Model 450. When I brought this one to my ear, max boosted and on highest volume it didn't hurt my ears. I have very good hearing so anything loud enough for my 99 year old mom should make me wince. Fortunately the SPEAKER BOOSTS better than the speaker in the ear piece.I am buying a TMGA45 extra to see if it'll work on this 420 base. The Panasonic website isn't precise on the matter. If you pull up specs on the 45 handset, it says compatible with the 450 base (which offers cell pairing I had no need for). But if you view compatibles to the 420 base a whole pile of handsets are listed including the 45 which boosts sound 50db compared to the 40db max of this model.In the meanwhile intercom calls are brighter and much clearer than external calls so at least inside the home we can easily gossip and take orders from my mom again.Thank you Panasonic.PSThe manual. There is a code for each menu operation as in #223. Ya press MENU then the code. Have no fear the menu selections are stated in text. So: RINGER VOLUME SPEECH BOOST AUDIO BOOST SILENT DATE/TIME. ANSWERING MACHINE ON/OFF RECORD GREETING NUMBER OF RINGS INTERCOM RING STYLE etcetera, alll the usual players are there to scroll through. You do not need the codes at all. Why in the hell doesn't Panasonic say this??!? I nearly passed on buying. I downloaded the manual before buying and wondered What the heck? The manual has no pics of menu screens.

Just finished setting up. Got for my mom who is deaf in one ear and limited in other with hearing aid. She could not hear on the old phone. This one is great because she can boost the volume and hears great

This phone has great volume nice large, easy to see numbers and easy functionality

Got this as a Christmas gift for my mother-in-law and it has more features than she needs. Great phone and easy setup. Will see if it is worth the price.EDIT: I had to return the system as the base unit showed an error message of no a/c power and the only thing that worked was the answering machine. The replacement was sent out overnight - fantastic customer service. Praying that this one will work!

Flashing red light bothersome and unable to turn off. Panasonic cust service unable to help.

This phone is perfect for me. I am hearing impaired and was having trouble understanding what people were saying. Not only is there is boost button to enhance voices but there is also a volume button on the side of the phone to increase or decrease the volume. It works extremely well for my needs.
