This thing works quick & Accurately
We have been told on numerous occasions by different people that they have smelled gas while in the house. neither of us have ever detected any odor. The other day, 2 contractors were here no more than 5 minutes when they both we have a gas leak somewhere. Only gas fed appliances are the water heater & HVAC heater. For less the the price of having someone come check these, I ordered this little jewel. After warming up, it took about 15 seconds to find a leak in the supply line to the house heater. To check for accuracy, I turned the valve off feed the pipe. The detector showed no leak then. It's a wonder in all this time we haven't had an explosion since it sets right next to the water heater.Highly recommend!!

Works Great
I use this to test for, and find, gas leaks in my travel trailer. It works well. It was easy to figure out how to use it. The display is easy to read. Good purchase. A must have for owners of gas stoves.

Works well, a bit finicky
They mean it when they say in the instructions to calibrate it outside in clean air. Dial up till it beeps. Then dial down till it’s done beeline and starts clicking. Clicking means it’s sniffing.I recommend rechargeable batteries. They give a constant voltage till they’re dry which helps with consistent detection. Regular alkaline batteries will lose power and seemed like the detection was weaker when the batteries got weak. Both battery types will lose charge fast. It’s very sensitive. It gave a small hit on the pipe dope in connections (stops clicking but no alarm, a warning light flickers off and on). When it found a real leak it let me know with alarm and lights. It detected propane (object of my search) and methane (a surprise coming from a door drain).Glad I have it.

Unit works well and has an all-important sensitivity adjustment
After multiple failures of various detectors installed in my camper, I opted for this portable device with a much needed sensitivity control. Although this is a battery operated portable device, I installed a 5-volt USB power supply where my previous detectors were installed and added a USB power cord to the unit. I adhered the unit to my camper wall with a velcro strip. Now I have the safety monitoring needed for the camper, and if I need to use the unit elsewhere, I simply detach it and install (3) AAA batteries and it's ready to go. The previous sensors were far too sensitive, resulting in annoying false alarms and they had high failure rates. I couldn't even put on after-shave lotion without setting them off -- ridiculous and very annoying! The sensitivity control on this Y201 is terrific, allowing you to stop the false alarms. ANY detector should be tested weekly, but instead of a test button, why not use the real thing -- I test the unit once a week with a BIC lighter. Also, the camper manufacturer installs the detectors at the floor level, where they can pick up dirt and dust, setting off the unit and possibly even clogging the sensor or eventually disabling it. LP gas is heavier than air and will stay by the floor, but there is no real reason to put the sensor that low to the floor. With the Y201, you can point the sensor down, where it will not have the tendency to pick up dirt or dust, and it will be at a more desirable level from the floor, about 5 or 6 inches. Also, because LP gas is detected by odor, the only time you really need a detector is when you are sleeping! Please note that this unit has an audible feedback feature that indicates proper functioning -- it makes a ticking sound. If you are a light sleeper, the ticking sound may bother you, so keep that in mind. I got used to the sound and it does not bother me at all, and I am a light sleeper. It's like a clock with a second hand, although it is slightly faster than that. Anytime the detector is not needed, it can simply be switched off, and this will also prolong the life of the unit. If you are forgetful and cannot remember to make sure the unit is on when needed, then this may not be for you. If you have small children (or cats) around that could possibly mess with the controls, then this may not be for you. As for me, I am very pleased with the unit and happy that such a device was available. I have been using it for a couple of months now, and I will revise this review accordingly if problems develop. The company now offers a lifetime warranty for the unit, which is amazing since all LP sensors have a limited lifetime, similar to an incandescent light bulb.

Sewer Gas Savior
I used this device to find a sewer gas leak (ended up being toilet wax ring) and tested it with natural gas. The instructions are clear and take care to tell what you actually need to know and not bore you with dozens of pages of size 6 font legalese. The device is simple to operate - not 10 minutes after opening it did I find the source of a sewer smell that had been haunting my house for weeks. The alarm is clear and loud and the sensitivity was ample enough for my needs. I can't speak to longevity but for now it's worked beautiful.

Don’t go insane sniffing for propane! Buy this!
Works as described. Like the bending neck feature to get around tanks and oven areas. It will be a great asset when running a propane powered generator. Highly recommended for outdoor folk who like to easily check for propane leaks.

Simple, but effective
I bought this because the house we moved into had some serious issues with the ventilation where Ptraps were bypassed & H2S Poison was leaking back into the house. Not only has this device helped troubleshoot the rest of the ventilation system, but it also helped me to double check all the gas connections too. It’s a very simple design, with a wheel to adjust the sensitivity? But it’s effective in detecting natural gasses. It is loud, & has an annoying buuuuuzzzzz when something is detected but that’s a good thing, right? You wanna know if there is an unwelcome gas in your house. It does detect the gasses fairly quick, but takes a few seconds to reset. You get what you pay for.Accuracy is undeniable, & I say that because I used it on my dog when he had an upset tummy and was VERY gassy! The meter rose to Three Bars! I hope this little device helps you as much as it helped me, & gives you the peace of mind that your house is gas free.
