I like it because the active ingredient is an anticoagulant, Diphacinone, which is far, far less toxic to dogs and cats than rats, and the antidote is Vitamin K, which all vets stay stocked up on. Other rat poisons contain Bromethalin, which is much more dangerous to dogs and cats—don’t take my word about the antidote for Bromethalin—look this one up yourself. So why would anybody use Bromethalin? You get kills after one feeding, and quicker kills. Blood anticoagulants like warfarin and Diphacinone are much slower and might require two feedings. I use Diphacinone because I had much rather take my dog to the vet than use Bromethalin get out the shovel and have a backyard burial due to my stupidity. One time I thought my dog had consumed some rat poison—I was in a panic attack until I discovered the poison was warfarin. I knew I had 48 hours to get to the vet. had used Bromethalin. I have been placing a handful for 4 days and every day all the nuggets are gone. Am I just feeding them?** A: I setup one of my wireless Swann cameras and watched for a week as the rats/big field mice? popped out from my crawlspace and emptied the pellets one by one for ~20 min to an hour. Hoarding them? Every day, I'd fill the little plastic electric tape cover, every day the'd empty it. Near as I could see on the camera, there were/are 3 of the suckers. After a week, I pushed closed the little screen/flap cover of our crawlspace ad set rocks along the things so they couldn't get out of there. The other side fo the house there is a giant opening under where the fireplace is and I put another container of pellets for a few more days and watched as they once again, emptied and didn't die... Finally I set 6 traps in a semi-circle and watched as one by one they all succumbed to a thwack on the head. of course I still have 3.5 pounds of this stuff, so this time I'll set out a 3x1 board, place 8 pellets in a staggered row and nail them to the board so they have to eat them right there. I'll let you know how that goes, they are getting wary of the traps... **Q: I’ve seen mixed reviews on if this gets rid of chipmunks, someone please give me a proper answer** A: This product absolutely works on squirrels & chipmunks. Im fairly certain that majority of the negative reviews claiming it doesn't work at all for any rodents, is solely based on the buyer not fully reading & following directions + researching the target rodent you're using it for. If you plan to use this for chipmunk control, you must use a bait station. This stuff attracts deer, raccoon, cats, dogs etc....seen them all on my game cams sniffing at the bait station. Also be aware that chipmunks do what's called caching their food, where they bury it in numerous random places. I learned of this after watching several hours of videos from my game cam where the chipmunk was going into the bait station, coming out with a nugget in its mouth, running out of camera sight & quickly returning for more. This went on for 6-8 hrs daily. Finally it began burying the bait within camera view, at which point I started researching & learned this is what they do, especially in winter when food is scarce. I panicked after seeing that it was burying the poison & i immediately went outside & dug up the poison- i know there's more out there but I have no clue where & that greatly concerns me as I have dogs. If you don't see a decrease in chipmunk activity, its probably because you're giving them too much. I fill one bait station, it gets depleted in 1-2 days, I then remove it so the chipmunk knows there is no more & hopefully returns to its caches of buried bait & ingests the poison. Hope that helps. Wish I could post the videos I have of the caching behavior. **Q: Can I just put the whole bag in a crawl space ? Or do I need to open the bag** A: I opened my trap door and threw the bags in as is. They are very effective and we highly recommend if you've reached the end of your rope trying to deter them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ No problem getting them to eat the stuff. *by J***E on 26 October 2014* I have a cabin in a rural area and there are a lot mice forgaging in the area. I don't like them nesting under the house. Thought to try this stuff instead of D-Con because it is a lot cheaper. They really have been eating this stuff. 4lbs in two weeks out of bait boxs. Ususally with the d-con they will eat a lot at first and then not so much when the population goes down. I have put more bait out. I will know if it actually kills them when they stop eating. Not there yet. It is fall and they are probably putting in their winter stash. I will post a follow up. Follow up: I have put out a couple of pounds of this stuff over the last six weeks and it keeps getting eaten. Its in a bait box with 1.25" holes so I am pretty sure its mice. Ususally the first couple of bars of D-Con get gobbled up quickly and then they sit for weeks at time. I am assuming it was because there are fewer mice. They eat so much of this stuff that, even if it is effective, it is more expensive than DCon. I believe that they are taking it back to a hollow tree somewhere and storing it as food for the winter. This might be a good reason to use bars that they can't easily steal. I have only seen a couple of dead mice but most may have gone off into the fields to die. I am going to try something else. The consumption quanity and the comsumption rate does not follow the pattern that I saw with D-Con. Follow up to the follow up: I used some bars laced with Brodifacoum and Bitrex. They ate a couple of the bars and nibbled on the rest. They have not eaten much in quite a while. I suspect that the bars are too big to be dragged off and they end up chewing off what they can. I believe that this actually kills them.
