Is the lid screw on or snap on? Thank you.

The Lid does Not screw on but neither does it Snap on. The “silicon” gasket on the cover holds it in place. There is a 3/4 inch plastic “tab” protruding from the edge of the cover for leverage to remove the cover.

If you don’t want to snap cover on when you drink coffee will the rim be very hot

I use this mug every morning without the cover and the rim is never hot. No part of the mug gets hot, which I like, but you have to remember that the drink itself may be very hot because the feel of the mug won’t tell you that.

If can sip or drink without lid?

Yes, it can be used without the lid but the insulation is better with the lids on.
