The most 'fun' sounding headphone I've heard... engaging and musical.
I already had Sennheasier HD 25 iis which are great on-ear headphones but i wanted to try these after a good experience with the Yamaha EPH-200s. I really enjoyed the Yamaha house sound and these didn't disappoint.I'm more about the sound, but build wise they are really good quality. The white set are really aesthetically pleasing and quite trendy. They are light but well made and I'm not scared they'll break easily. They are super comfy and the pads rest just nicely on your ears. They are quite easy to get a good fit too.Sound - these are quality sounding earphones. they have a unique smooth, open and detailed sound coming out of them. Instantly you'll hear how BIG the sound is. There is great depth and width to the soundstage. Unlike more analytical brighter headphones which pick out details easily but sometimes lose the "fun" factor of listening to music, these still pick out plenty in your music. BUT in a different way. Their open sound and the way instruments and vocals are placed in and out of your head let you hear details in your music that you haven't heard before. again, it's not an in your face type.. it's more subtle which helps you still enjoy and engage with your music without being forced to hear microdetails in a more pin point nature. Instruments and vocals are very intelligently placed and it's great being able to hear music in this way.Bass - Punchy and with great resolution. Really dynamic. enough punch to really maximise that fun factor, and never overdone or exaggerated.Mids and highs - Instruments sound VERY organic and natural. the timbre is very impressive. I haven't heard instruments this good and I have LOTS of IEMs and headphones, some three times more expensive. these have been tuned excellently to really help you engage with your music and hear everything at the same time.I never really buy into "burn in", but these definitely improved after a couple days of listening. even though they sounder good out of the box, it was like a veil was lifted after a couple of days. this improved clarity and really improved the highs. This further aided the big soundstage.Compared to my Senn HD25iis.The Senns have bass that is maybe has a tad more weight and resolution and is slightly more impactful, but can sound quite clinical at times. Bass on the Yams is a tiny bit smoother but still with great resolution and punch.Mids and highs on the Senns are again brighter which may make them sound clearer, but again you can see why DJs like them as they are quite analytical. Detail is more in your face, with the Yams it's married in with the music.Soundstage - The Yams are FAR wider and more holographic. Senns can sound very congested and narrow. The music is fixed in your head, whereas the Yams have it placed around it and with fantastic precision. Again this makes them much more fun to listen to. Live music sound great with the Yams, as does movies. I watched the new Star Wars with them and it was wonderful. i guess gaming would be good to.Please remember that the Yams are open eared so music does leak. Not as loud though as full size sets though. in fact even at high volume they don't leak sound to much so don't worry about others being interrupted.I like both, but prefer the Yams for enjoying and relaxing with my music.

Sensational Sound at this price point...
I've used a few really good headphones including Sennheiser HD-580's which play with the big boys in terms of sound performance.Whilst I'm not a die hard audiophile by any means, I've a decent idea what good phones sound like. The Yamaha's come with a 2m extension cable, a 6.3mm gold plated adaptor jack. They are comfy and well made, with good quality cable that without the extension is an ideal length for use with a portable player.I plugged them into a PC Asus Xonar sound card which I know has a very good SNR and high quality output for sound. I spent some time playing a huge variety of music styles from heavy bass Tupac, to Michael Jackson, Elvis, Guns N Roses, Mozart, Trad Irish, Country, some hip hop, Rock N roll to Jimi Hendrix and even some Glen Miller! The Yamaha's produced great sounding bass with good clarity and presence without the annoyiing "beats" swamping effect, midtones and treble were clear and bright but well balanced in every genre. Channel seperation was excellent, and even pushing the EQ hard I couldn't get any distortion from them at all. They sound rich, natural and balanced whatever your taste in music might be. Great performance too playing back DVD's and movies. As an all round headphone these are very impressive.I'm not going to tell you these beat everything out there (you can spend £2000+ in this market), the HD-580's are super sounding phones, as are some other makers. But clearly there are some overpriced, over hyped makers out there who make nice looking "cans" but fail to live up to the rather heavy price tag. The Yamaha HPH-200's punch well above their weight, deliver a rich impressive sound, at a price that is really very very competitive. Certainly they can go head to head with some phones costing twice the price in some cases. And they frankly humiliate some of the budget offerings out there in the £20-£50 price range (tried a few Sony and Panasonic models in this bracket and they can't touch the Yamaha at all) Even at low volume levels the presence and clarity is very good this is quite unlike very cheap headphones which tend to be muddy and weak at low volumes (esp the bass)If you are in the market for a pair of headphones that deliver excellent sound quality, and don't want to lay down a lot of cash to get there, your search is over.Yamaha have outdone themselves here, really impressive and superb sounding headphones. It's a mystery why they're not one of the top sellers out there, the HPH-200's might well be the dark horse of the Headphone market. Yamaha are well respected in the music industry, these are very worthy of your attention, far more so than the "hip/trendy" offerings that deliver the looks, but don't impress on the Acoustics side (which is what really counts)A great choice for the discerning headphone buyer.

Love Them
I really like these, I agree with all the good reviews and that is why I bought them. They are very light, very well made and sound great without too much bass emphasis.Only slight negatives, they leak a lot of sound as expected as they are open backed but this aspect benefits the sound, they could also be a little more comfortable but you could say that about most.
