Is the trim navy blue or purple?

There are 3 stripes on the one that I purchased. The two outside stripes are green and the middle strip is purple.

The rope on the ring has rotted away after a year. How can it be replaced with one that will last?

we didn't bother, just ordered a new ring. The cloth that holds the rope rots from the sun also.

How thick (tall) is it when it is laying flat?

It's about 2 1/2 to 3 inches high.

Can this written on with a permanent marker?

These are basically a decorative item. I believe you can use a marker on it. I have never tried, but I think it will work.
