Books of Blood, Vols. 4-6

Update: gave these guys the benefit of the doubt and order another copy. Same nonsense: cover of vol 4 - 6 but actually the vol 1 - 3 stories. Don’t buy from this vendor.I’m sure the stories are great, but the version I got has the cover of vol 4 - 6 but the contents are vols 1 - 3. Glad I get to waste my time returning this very clear quality issue.

I also got a copy of Volumes 1-3 (which I already own) with a cover saying it was Volumes 4-6. I don't know what the issue is here but it looks like this is a common problem. I would recommend you look elsewhere for Volumes 4-6 lest you run into the same issue I (and it would appear several others) have. I added a picture in case you think people are lying to you. Under the book you can see my Volumes 1-3. I was looking forward to reading Volumes 4-6. It would appear that is no longer going to happen. Seriously, save yourself the annoyance and don't buy this. Perhaps you will get the correct book but why play odds? Find a different source to purchase this book from. I know I am!

Book looked great until I opened it. The cover says it is Volumes 4-6, but it was actually volumes 1-3 inside. Extremely annoying.

There is some good stuff in this book, and even a few moments of greatness. But also some mediocre stuff too. I didn't dislike any of it, but I feel over all it's inferior in many ways to the first 3 volumes. The Forbidden is a major standout here however, the short than inspired the CandyMan films. This, in my opinion, is one of Barker's absolute best short horror stories. The atmosphere was excellent, with a creeping sense of dread throughout and just extremely well written. A very intelligent horror story.Reading through In the Flesh made me seriously feel like I was reading a Stephen King story. That's not an insult in any way, it's a good story, and a good bit different than the typical gory, surreal horror Barker is more known for in those early years.The Inhuman Condition was also pretty solid. And I feel it could have made for an excellent horror film no less.The Body Politic. The idea behind this story is unsettling, but it's so absolutely outlandish both in concept and in execution that it was honestly pretty difficult to take it too seriously. I ended up coming away from it feeling like I'd read a horror-comedy, even parody. It was entertaining however.Revelations. This one was pretty good, even if a bit bland. A more traditional ghost story, kept me interested, but wasn't anything special.Some of the rest of the stories are pretty decent, others even better. But overall I can't help but feel slightly let down by the overall package. Especially coming off the bat from the exquisitely excellent Vols. 1-3. The Forbidden aside, I just don't think this set of tales stacks up the majority of those before them. A good read all the same though. I do recommend it.

Clive Barker is best known for the Hellraiser movies which is sort of a mixed blessing. I assume he's made piles of cash off of Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites, but Barker's real strength lies in his writing, most of which is far more visceral than overt and just wouldn't translate well to the big screen. He isn't so much a horror author as an amazing writer who happens to set most of his tales in the horror genre. Even his mediocre stories consist of a decent hook bolsterd by clever pose and imagery ranging from artfully understated to squirm-inducingly vivid. As it turned out I'd already read some of these stories as part of another Barker collection ('Books of Blook vol. 5' contains the same stories as 'The Inhuman Condition', I believe), but it was fun to revisit them. Stand-out stories include 'Revelations' (I love Barker's take on ghosts and hauntings), 'Down Satan!' (a quick little tale about obsession), 'In the Flesh' (a weird tale that would have done H.P. Lovecraft proud), and 'The Life of Death' (a great demonstration of the fine art of dread). Long story short, Barker rules.James Pratt, author of 'Horrible Stories for Terrible People. I ordered Clive Barker books of blood volumes 4-6 the book came and i was very happy with how it looked however when i opened the first page i was looking at volumes 1-3 i have already purchased volumes 1-3 so have no need for it.

I bought this book as I already have volumes 1 to 3. I was looking forward to reading it so was really disappointed when I opened the book to find that the cover doesn't match the inside. The cover says volumes 4 to 6 but the inside was volumes 1 to 3 safe to say it got returned.

I ordered Clive Barker Books of Blood Volumes 4-6 for my son for Christmas. He has now just gone to start reading it and it is actually Volumes 1-3, contained within a cover that states it should be Volumes 4-6. I've now missed the return date. Is there anything I can do, as the product is not as described?

Book says volumes 4-6 on the front but its actually volumes 1-3 on the inside, now I'm going to have to mess around sorting out a return/refund.

Sphere books (an imprint of Little Brown) need to get on top of this ASAP.As other reviewers have said, the cover says Vol. 4-6 but inside it’s Vol. 1-3Clearly a misprinting and they need to offer refunds to affected customers
