These serve the purpose I bought them for: protecting my work surface from drips and spatters of paint. They are very thin and don't look or feel as though they'd be absorbent, so I don't know if they'd be helpful for a bigger spill, if I knocked over my paint water for instance, but that isn't what they were purchased for.EDIT: I have been using these, and though they are very thin, they do prevent liquid from going through. I can dry my watercolor brush off on this, and it does not go through. I still don't know if it would absorb a big spill, but for some wet messier painting, these are great.
