It looks like the camera is always on.** A: When you see the light the camera is on. Turn the camera off and the light will go off. **Q: I need to use this on a desk. Do I need to buy a camera mount for this. If so what is recommended?** A: As you note by the picture, the camera can sit on you desk, but may sit too low. The picture may also be deceiving because it implies it is fixed in this position when actually it can be bent in several positions. The camera is designed to sit over the top of a laptop or monitor so there is no purpose-built mount available or necessary. You can put it on anything or do what I do. I prefer this camera over my built in laptop computer (it swivels & can be moved around without fooling with the computer lid). After i'm done using it, I remove it & store it behind my computer. This also adds a safety factor so if anyone hacks my camera, all they'll see is desk or back of the computer. I hope this helps.
