Superbly designed thermos
We have used it for almost two weeks now. It's deceptively small in size and cleverly designed. We use it for holding hot tea each morning as I need my tea to be boiling hot. We drink it all fast (in half an hour or so), because black tea with milk tends to get "cooked" when left inside a flask for longer than that. Which means I have not tested how long a beverage can stay hot for and at what temperatures. In the 30 to 35 minutes we take to drink all the tea from this flask, there is no noticeable drop in temperature. A previous flask from Thermos would ensure beverages stayed hot for 24 hours. This product is by the same company and seems to have the same solid build quality, so I would not be surprised if it gave you hours and hours of beverages staying hot inside it! Highly recommend it.

Excellent choice for my 7-Eleven refills
12/13/13 Update: I paid $25.20 for this item in July. To see it currently listed at $46 is nothing more than Christmas gouging! Wait until the holidays to pass if you're not looking to get this as a gift. ------ This exceeded my expectations. When I first opened the box and took this thing out....I was like "is that it?" It is smaller than most thermos chiefly because it does not have a glass liner, which is good for me cause I would break it. This unit is squatty which makes it easy to refill at 7Eleven. Its easy to clean my faucet fits right inside the mouth's opening. The coffee stays hot for 6 hours. Warm for longer. It's listed as 34 but you can get 36oz in easily. Note: the one mistake I made was to over-fill it. Doing so makes it almost impossible to depress the release button. It also pushes overflow into the spout when you put the lid back on. Best advice: leave yourself some room at the top for an easier first pour and no spout spillage. I would highly recommend BUT at a reasonable price point of $25-$35. Enjoy !!!!!!

Some like it hot . . .
We just bought ours last week. This was a bit of a surprise because of its size - very small compared to insulated carafes using conventional technology. But, after all, shape determines surface area and the closer to a sphere you get the less surface area you have across which to exchange heat. A good thing. But I was somewhat skeptical about the insulating properties of its all metal design. Here is what I found: Rinse and fill carafe with boiling water. Ambient temp 72 F. Temperature at filling: 211 F (We live close to sea level.) 1 hr 15 min: 200 F 2 hrs 15 min: 194.9 F 3 hrs 15 min: 189.9 F 6 Hrs: 177.3 F But who fills a carafe with boiling water? I rinsed the carafe with hot tap water (138.8F). More like what I'd actually do. I took coffee from our old Krups coffee maker which holds it at 175 F on its hot plate and filled the carafe about 3/4 full. Temperature at filling: 173.0 Ambient temperature 72 F. 2 hrs: 166.1 F 3 hrs: 160.8 7 hrs 15 min: 136.9 F This heat retention performance is excellent in my estimation, keeping coffee in the drinkable temperature range for up to six or seven hours. Much better than the glass lined carafe we had. Of course, some like it hot and some like it hotter. So I thought it would be helpful to see numbers.

Great carafe, keeps things HOT.
Great little carafe for coffee. I make my coffee in an 8-cup French Press, after which I pour into this carafe. Fills it most of the way, not quite. Carafe holds the temp of the coffee for more than the amount of time it takes me to drink it, which is probably over the course of an hour or so. My only complaint about the carafe is a minor one. The first two cups of coffee pour from the spout just fine, very neatly. But after that, the 3rd or 4th cups really do not pour all that well. You have to turn the carafe almost upside down, and there's a lot of splatter at that point. I've found it easier to just unscrew and remove the lid at the point, makes it much easier to pour. Again, minor complaint. It keeps the coffee hot, which is the primary function. UPDATE (2019-08-15): Nearly four years later, and I still use this carafe almost daily. I've moved away from French Press and do more Chemex or Kalita Wave, but I still pour my coffee into this carafe to keep it hot. And it still does keep my coffee piping hot. Even after pouring my second or third cup, I have to let the coffee sit for a minute to cool off coming from the carafe. But despite that, my original complain still stands. I just do not like the spout. It pours horribly after the first couple cups of coffee. I've taken to shielding the pour with a paper towel to reduce splatter, and eventually I'll just unscrew the spout and pour directly from the carafe itself. After four years, it's still a minor annoyance, but it's a small price to pay for hot coffee.

Carafe just right for coffee filter!
If you like coffee well enough to make it right - this is the carafe for you! By making it right, I mean, of course, grinding the coffee beans yourself and using a funnel & filter when you pour hot water over the coffee. The neck of this carafe is exactly the right size for a #6 funnel (at least, the dark brown plastic one I have). My beef is carafes that make the funnel tippy or unstable - but this one is perfect! (For some reason, Amazon doesn't show photos of this carafe with a funnel in it - they should!). While pouring the hot water into the carafe I felt the outside to see if there was any change in temperature - there was no discernible temperature change! The coffee stayed hot/warm for just as long as it does in my glass-lined thermal carafe - and with an all-metal interior, no worries if it hits the floor. I have no idea where the "Nissan" name comes from - the unit was stamped "Thermos" brand on the bottom and made in Malaysia - not in the land of Internet attackers.

Awesome carafe
I bought this carafe based on reviews and also experience I have had with other Nissan Thermos products. The purpose of the purchase was to pour out coffee from a liter sized french press to keep hot and not sit on the grounds and get over-extracted. I was taken aback when I opened the box at the small size of the carafe as, because of the thin, Thermax walls, it looks much smaller than the previously mentioned french press. However, I was relieved to find out that the carafe holds the full content of the press and keeps it hot for quite some time. I would say that while it will retain heat for probably six hours or more, it will stay at a hot coffee temperature for about 3 hours. This carafe is a recommended purchase. It is also attractive in a low-key way. A winner! I recommend this brand as all of the Nissan Thermos travel mugs and other products that I own are great. They all work equally well keeping things hot or cold.

Not bad, but glass is better and similarly priced
I would recommend a Zojirushi glass carafe over this one. The insulation works okay on this one, but glass is much more effective and sometimes can be found cheaper.

Doesn't keep hot liquid as hot as expected!! Average heat insulation!!
Just average heat insulation... not even sure if it is authentic Thermos!

Product So So
The heat preservation function decreases after using it for a period of time. Compared with the expensive price, this product seems to have low cost performance.

Liquid was cold after less than an hour.
Very disappointed with the product. Looks nice. Arrived well packaged and no damage. But it does not keep the liquid hot.
