See details - Ok, here is the information most people and the manufacturers don’t tell you. This type of carburetor has neither air or gasoline adjustment screw. So, this means that the main jet (the jet is the smallest hole in the little bolt that holds the carburetor bowl to the carburetor) that lets the gas into the engine is one size. When the seller or manufacturer claims that the carburetor will bolt on to many engine sizes they are correct, however the carburetor’s main jet is set to the smallest of the engine sizes they say it will bolt up to. So, what does this mean? The larger the engine, the more gas it takes to run at full speed and under load. Once you have bolted this carburetor up to your engine and you start engine, you find that it surges ( surging is the engines rpm’s going up and down over and over). This is the engine telling you it isn’t getting enough fuel. If this was a lawn mower that had previously been working fine but then started to surge, you would take the bowl off of the carburetor and clean out the little jet hole that was plugged and starving the engine for fuel. But this is a brand new carburetor so you need to do what the lawn mower repair company would do, increase the size of the jet hole. Easy for them, easy for you! You need to take the carburetor bowl off the carburetor, don’t forget to turn the fuel off before doing it. The little bolt that holds the carburetor bowl on to the carburetor has three holes. There is one hole on the bolts face and the other two located just below the threads. The one on the face is the one we want to enlarge as it leads to the other two holes. To do this you will need to purchase a Metric Mini Micro Drill Bit Set. These are really small drill bits that the repair shop uses and they are really inexpensive, some under $5.00. You can find them right here on desertcart. You start with the smallest drill bit and place it into the hole located on the face of the bolt. Find the one that is just barely larger that the hole and doesn’t pass through it. Use it to drill out the hole, then remove the little burrs and pieces with air or liquid under pressure. Place the bowl on the carburetor and screw the bolt/jet back into place. Turn the fuel back on and watch for leaks as leaks may occur if you went careful to get the bowl’s gasket back into place before tightening the bolt/jet. When the engine starts it will either start surging again or run just fine. Still surging? Repeat the method until the engine runs fine at all speeds and under load. If you use the smallest drill bit needed every time you need to enlarge the jet’s hole you will be successful and find the perfect jet hole size for your engine. DO NOT GUESSTIMATE. GUARANTEED FAIL IF YOU DO! Repair shops have access to the exact size of the micro drill bit needed. You don’t. I decided to use the new larger one, I figured newer technology maybe they knew more than they did 25 years ago when this tiller was purchased. So, I used the larger one and it worked just fine. started up on the first pull. And to think I almost threw away the whole tiller after cleaning the old carburetor for 4 hours and having no luck. It took me 2 minutes to put the flap on and another 5 to mount it. I have no mechanical experience at all. Its amazing after all the effort I put in to trying to fix the old one and then just paying $13 to have this one overnighted and installed and working in under 10 minutes blew my mind.
