It is easy to raise once it is in the holder. Simply raise one section at a time and rotate the raised section clockwise to lock it, then raise the next section. The instructions were a little confusing about attaching the flag. They kept referring to a rope for the flag but there was no rope included, nor the pulley pictured. This pole came with plastic rings attached to the pole for the flag. The ring at the top of the pole was affixed so that it can swivel 360 degrees. The second ring was able to swivel 360 degrees but also floats up and down the flag pole. This feature basically allows you to attach any size flag you want to the pole. Once I figured that out it was very easy. I’m not sure how long the clips will last as they are made of a flimsy looking plastic.
