Put the loop over the head so there is a big space at the front. The loop needs to be big. Cross at the front to create a figure of 8 and place the empty loop over the nose and tighten.

will this stop my boxer pit mix from jumping?

it is hard to say as my very hyper Doberman mix still will try and pull this...she also figured out how to pop the leash from around her mouth so I gave up on this and went back to choker collar for walking...I have tried everything under the sun

How do you keep the dog from slipping out from the figure 8 part?

There is a slide that you can use to hold it tighter to their head and also a catch that hooks on to their collar.
