The lamp provides only ambient (low) light and is not meant to be bright due to the paper shade. At the risk of setting fire to your home, you should therefore not exceed 40W and only replace the light bulb with an LED bulb that remains cool to the touch when lit. I did so by taking with me to the hardware store the light bulb provided where I found an equivalent, warmer LED light. **Q: Is it actually 18 inches tall with the legs etc.? That seems pretty large. I'm wondering if there's a shorter version in this same style.** A: The lamp is 18.5 inches high (to the tip of the round metal bracket). The three metal legs are spaced 9 inches apart.
