An essential reference for knitters from novice to expert, this fully illustrated sourcebook is the first of three "stitch dictionaries," to be written by the professionals at Vogueยฎ Knitting . Some 300 stitches are detailed, and hundreds of charts, photographs, and illustrations make it easy to understand how to construct each stitch, as well as the ways they can be used in projects. The experts at Vogueยฎ Knitting demonstrate rib stitches such as brioche, herringbone, chevron, and quilted patterns; traveling patterns like parquet, ripple, and diamond stitches; lace, including daisy and wave patterns; and such unusual stitches as eye of lynx, bobble block, peppercorn, and bamboo. The most complete book of its kind, this is the definitive stitch reference! Review: Great book! - This book provides so many stitches and all in the color green which allows you to more easily determine the difference of the looks of each stitch as compared to others. Bought this used, of course, and seller was extremely prompt and condition of book (it was said to be a library book in very good condition) was exactly as stated! Extremely useful reference for my knitting library. Review: A Beautiful book that has leaf & tree patterns among the many. - This is a beautiful book with different patterns to choose from. There are a number of leaf and tree patterns, which is why I bought the book. It's a source worth owning if you like interesting patters with a hint of nature.

Simply Outstanding
If you're like me and you like to design or texture your knit projects on the fly, this is an excellent resource. The number of patterns is simply mind-boggling, and each one includes a designation of how many stitches your rows should have in order to use it (e.g., "Multiples of 8, plus 2"), which turns out to be a key feature. The only downside to this book is that it lacks an index, so be ready with lots of Post-Its to mark your favorites. Note: The photo is a hat I made using the bamboo stitch outlined in the book.

Stitch volume 1 review
This is a great book and essential to any serious knitter wanting to expand there skills and valuable related literature. Great price, with endless possibilities. This book doesn't have patterns but it covers hundreds of different stitches. that you can master. So good, and totally worth it. Thank you Vogue Knitting!

No Charts
I admire this book and am inspired by the beautiful photographs. I agree with the positive reviews. But I object to the lack of charts. Without charts the concept of a pattern is harder to grasp. For example, the seed stitch is simple concept if the instructions are: row 1: (RS) *k1 p1* repeat to end; row 2: purl the knit stitches and knit the purl stitches. Instead Vogue specifies "(multiple of 2 sts plus 1" row 1 (RS)K1 *P1 K1* rep from * to end row 2: Repeat row 1." So, for stitches I plan to use in this lovely book, I will make my own charts. Charts make the concepts jump off the page.

Fantastic Bargain
I thought I was purchasing a used book for a very good price and when it arrived the book was brand new, still in the sealed wrapper. I was beyond delighted!

Knitting
I really like these volumes that Vogue is putting out for knitting. It is progressive in skill building. It is a wonderful way to learn techniques and stitches. The book is big enough and will stay open to allow you to refer to is without reopening each time.

Written instructions only. Why no charts?
I find stitch dictionaries that provide both charts and written instructions more helpful in understanding and integrating interesting design elements or textures in my basic knitting projects. If I have to do without, I'll turn to Barbara Walker's volumes not this Vogue series. Based on volume one, this isn't worth the shelf space for me.

Vogue Knitting Stitchionary: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary: Knit and Purl v. 1
I haven't gone throug all the book, just fliped some pages, but from what I saw, the book is very good. First, it's not to expensive as it is a hard copy. Second the book is very well structured as it beggins with the simple knits and progresses to the more difficult ones and Third the instructions are very clear and all the designs have a sample, so you can see the final work. The only bad thing I can remember, is that sometimes they show some ideas, like a sweater or vest, but they don't tell you how it is made. I strongly recomend the book for beginners and advanced knitters.
