As others have stated, it comes with dies for insulated barrel connectors. I have not found this crimper to be sold with the open barrel connector dies but you can buy them separately. The correct Klein Tools VDV205-036 Wire Crimper Die, Terminal, Open Barrel, AWG 10-20, Replacement Die set is currently sold on Amazon as well. **Q: Anyone know if this could be used on a 10 AWG copper cable lug like the type used on batteries?** A: These crimpers are rated for up to 10 AWG, will absolutely work for that size wire. Most automotive battery main cables are MUCH larger than 10awg, more like 6awg - 2awg, and these would NOT WORK for those sizes. 10awg - 22awg is the capacity range. **Q: What is the thickness of the dies/gap for them to slide into the tool? Standard is 4mm, looking for one that fits 5mm wide dies.** A: I have been working in electronics for 50 years and still not clear. But might I suggest you either buy the crimping tool and if it doesn't suite your needs, simply return it. Does it work correctly on both wire types** A: I recently was installing a TV antenna. Code requires that external antennas be grounded with #10 or larger copper wire (or some other alternatives). So I used #10 solid copper wire. With one of those combination wire strippers, screw cutters, crimpers things, and squeezing as hard as I could, I could not get the crimp tight enough to keep the wire from sliding out. So I tried the Klein 3005CR. I saw that it was for stranded only, and was worried, but decided to give it a try anyway with the solid wire.
