Is it safe to sleep with a diesel heater running?

Combustion is sealed off from cabin air and the exhaust vents outside the vehicle, so the two never mix. Route the exhaust so it cannot be drawn back in, and still fit a CO alarm. Any fuel burning appliance in a small space deserves one.

Is 5 kW too much heat for a small van?

Often yes. In a small van or a single berth, a 5 kW unit short cycles on low, and repeated light load running builds carbon. Our 2.5 kW Apollo V1 fits small spaces better. Choose this V2 for a truck sleeper, a large RV or a boat cabin.

How much battery power does it use?

About 8 A at 12 V during the two to three minute glow plug start, then roughly 1 A to 2 A while running. Wire it to a house or leisure battery rather than your starting battery, so a long night of heat never leaves you unable to crank.

Will it run on winter diesel without gelling?

The heater burns whatever is in your tank, so cold weather diesel rules still apply. Use a winter blend or an anti gel additive below freezing, keep the fuel filter clean, and route the fuel line away from the coldest airflow under the vehicle.

How hard is the install?

Most owners fit it themselves in an afternoon. You cut one mounting hole, drop the unit in, run the exhaust and intake outside, mount the pump, and tap the fuel line into the diesel tank. Everything else is in the box. Wire it to a switched supply.
