I didn't time it, but probably 3 seconds. You push the pad on the screen, it flashes a couple times and gives the reading.

What all does this machine test for? Does it chech ph levels, heavy metals, arsenic etc?

This machine test only nitrate concentration in foods. I have test fresh vegetable and for me the results was acceptable.
