A good idea with a minor niggle.
As with most Simply Human products, the roller looks very nice and goes well with the black and chrome trim in my kitchen. I couldn`t find any mention of the weight anywhere apart from saying it`s got a `weighted base` so if anyone`s interested, it`s about 1kg and is fine for keeping the roll standing upright on it`s own when you tug at a sheet with one hand. However ....The reason for only fours stars is that, although it looks nice, is well made and works perfectly for a while, the tension bar seems to lack somewhat when you`re into the second half of the roll which I found to my dismay when I attempted to snatch a quick sheet (lucky I spelt it correctly) sending the roller into a strange spin on the worktop and ended up on the floor just in front of the cat who suddenly did a very similar pirouette to the roller and ran out into the garden shrieking something about animal cruelty.I struggled to the end of the roll, eventually reverting back to the two-handed method and hold the roller in place with one hand and tearing off a sheet with the other and I actually looked forwards to slipping a new roll on it so I could use it in the way it supposed to be used, namely, one-handed.In conclusion then - Yes, it looks nice and yes, it works well for a while and as it`s my first one-handed roller I don`t have anything else to compare it with. Either it`s Simply Human being over cautious and not wanting legal claims from people with trapped fingers and damaged cats (or is damaged fingers and trapped cats) or it`s an inherent flaw with the general design which will only be solved when someone sorts out some sort of variable tension adjustment unless it`s already on the market, in which case I`ll probably buy one as the concept is a good one.

Worth paying the extra for
First of all - this looks the business - this is what good design should be - awesome looking and practical. The tension arm is brilliant - just enough tension as to not restrict the spin of the roll but enough so you can pull of one sheet one handed with ease - it has a weighted base to keep it stable. It really says 'quality' so its worth paying the extra in my opinion. Bear in mind it is larger than a normal holder so might look out of place in a tiny kitchen. Overall I am very happy with it and I'm sure it will last for ages.

Large kitchen roll holder
Like the arm to keep the kitchen roll tidy. Large enough for largest kitchen roll. My only concern is it beginning to collect small rust spots which is why can't give it a 5 star reading.

Nice Holder
This product not only looks nice, but is also practical and works. I brought it for it's style, but it proved ideal when having one hand full holding a pan of soup, spilt a bit and could easily tear off one towel with the other hand to mop it up.

Different..
I was looking for a kitchen roll holder that would allow me to tear off one piece single handed. This does the job, and keeps the roll from unwinding. Looks good, too. My only criticism is that the spring arm should be a little less "fierce" as sometimes it won't let you have a piece of kitchen roll without a fight!

Strong & sturdy
A strong good looking item. I am able to use it one handedthough it took a bit of practice, that may be me, however.Looks good too.

The best kitchen roll holder.
Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. I have bought quite a few items from "Simple human " and all have been great. This kitchen roll holder does just that: securely holding any size roll without having the surplus unrolling. It looks good in any kitchen; especially if like me you have a lot of stainless steel, this will certaily compliment it.

Poor build quality
Item is good, but did not last. Plastic part at base of spring arm snapped, rendering the whole unit useless..
