About the Brand Twenty years ago in a garage near Fresno, Calif., an innovative beverage executive had an idea that meat snacks should offer more than the consistency and taste of shoe leather. Jim Rekoutis knew that jerky could be flavorful, moist, and chewy, a natural product made with ingredients that were healthy. At the time, processors were turning to poultry products to entice people into consuming lower amounts of fat in their diets. "So, I thought, why not turkey jerky?" I was happy to get another orfet at close to the same cost as last year. The taste was great but all bags were rather chewy or dried more than any Snackmasters turkey jerky I ever had. The first bag was so dry that a piece snapped off and could barely be chewed. Second bag a little better but dried and a piece had to be snapped off and carefully chewed a long while before swallowing. The other bags were also tough. Like I said the taste was the same so I kept this order. It was big pieces that weren't too tough and I LOVE that this jerky is nitrate free!! The second bag we ate as a snack while driving at night so we didn't see all the peppercorns in the bottom of the bag! What we thought was little pieces of jerky was actually very hot black peppercorns and we didn't have any water to wash it down! The taste is probably my favorite kind of Jerky. I used to buy these at Trader Joe's until they started making their own inferior jerky. Would give this 5 stars, but I've found that it's either hit and miss depending on the freshness of the jerky. Sometimes you get a bad batch where it tastes great, but it's really hard to chew. Also, only 4 starts because I can't find the 3 oz package online either.
