Underwhelming virgin experience of Dubai Chocolate
Well, all this hype that I've heard about Dubai Chocolate Bars, I just had to try it for myself, being a self confessed lover of good chocolate. So, I was expecting great things, given the price, a Tenner for 2x 100g bars. On opening the parcel, I was presented with very impressive, classy packaging, which is much bigger than the actual bar within. Then when you open the outer packaging, the bar itself, which is wrapped in silver paper, sits in its own purpose made golden recess, (Think Cleopatra waiting alluringly for Mark Antony to come and RAVISH her upon her four poster bed within her sleep chamber) so you upturn this to release the bar. Then on unwrapping it's silver gown, you are greeted with a subtle chocolatey aroma, and the sight of what best can be described as a BRICK of a chocolate bar. (I'm sure Cleopatra had better contours, at least Liz Taylor portrayed her as such) So, my first time trying, I break off a segment, which reveals the beige green colour filling, not the bright green in the photos, so I am already feeling a little despondent. I take a bite, as these are rather large segments. The chocolate was quite soft, as it had just been delivered, so maybe best served from the refrigerator. I bit into the segment, and instantly heard the crispy kunafa breaking as I did so. I took a moment to taste the chocolate, waiting for it to melt, and coat my tastebuds, but it had a rather unpleasant waxy quality, and didn't melt that well on my tongue, and the taste of Cocoa was conspicuous by its absence, so not a great start. And then came the filling. Well I was expecting great things, a Pungent Pistachio Punch perhaps, with salty overtones, but not a bit of it, sadly. I love pistachios, and so was looking forward to that salty earthy MEATY taste of freshly cracked Pistachios, but I could barely taste Pistachio at all. What I could taste was just a sweet creamy non descript filling with crispy bits, but nothing distinctive at all to enliven or excite my taste buds. So I was left completely underwhelmed by my first experience of Dubai Chocolate. I did like the crispiness of the Kunafa however, but that was the ONLY redeeming aspect for me. There may be better brands out there, but for the price, I expected so much more. I am now left feeling that I have wasted my money, and wishing that I'd just gone to Thornton's, for a half pound of their continental selection, which would have given me more variety, and much greater satisfaction. Well, you live and learn, and I have learned not to shell out my hard earned cash on this concoction that is passing for chocolate again. Packaging - 9/10 Product quality - 3/10 Value - 2/10 And that is me being quite generous, as the tasting experience should have been so much better. I paid a premium expecting a HIGH QUALITY product, not elaborate packaging. But I feel the packaging is what you are paying for here, more than the actual product. Give me Fry's Turkish Delight over this any day of the week, at least that has a nice distinctive flavour. I cannot get my head around all the 4 and 5 star reviews for this product. I can only summise that those people have never tasted REALLY GOOD chocolate before.

Tolerable, not good
It's okay. The texture is weirdly too soft and the chocolate is not very good, it's waxy. The filling is decent but its nowhere near as thick as the pictures. It also doesnt look as good, they advertise it as bright and soft but its just kind of sticky which is okay but not what I expected. Also very small, I expected that but I was really surprised how small it is in real life. It's definitely edible and tastes fine, but low quality and not worth the price even for curiosity, don't bother.

Really tasty but smaller than the packaging makes it look
This is actually the second time I’ve bought this. The first time was as part of a Christmas present for my daughter, who absolutely loves Dubai chocolate, and she liked it so much I bought it again for her birthday. The chocolate itself is really nice, but I do think it’s worth pointing out that the bars are smaller than the packaging makes them look. The packaging is clever, but if you’re expecting huge bars, you might be disappointed. That said, the bars themselves are very thick, and according to my daughter (who is definitely the expert here!), what makes these so nice is the crunchy texture inside. If you love Dubai chocolate or want to try the viral style chocolate bars, these are definitely worth trying — just be aware of the actual size.

Don’t be deceived by the size. It’s all packaging!
I tried this Dubai chocolate bar out of curiosity, having heard it was a new taste sensation. I ordered it to see what all the fuss was about. On arrival, it looked about the same size as a large (£2.50) Fruit and Nut bar, but at £7.50, it was three times the price. Opening the packaging, however, felt like being swindled – inside the outer cardboard sleeve was a much smaller chocolate bar wrapped in silver foil, similar in size to a small (£1.20) chocolate bar. Effectively, this means it’s around six times the price of a comparable chocolate bar. At 3 times the price it would have been expensive for what it was and could be thought of as a special treat or a novelty, but at 6 times the price- Just not worth the money. It feels as though the product has been designed to deceive consumers. That’s a real shame because the chocolate itself is very tasty, reminiscent of Kinder Bueno or Guylian. Unfortunately, the delicious, sweet flavour doesn’t compensate for the “bitter taste” left by feeling misled about the size. There’s no need for this kind of marketing trickery – companies like Cadbury’s, Nestlé and Terry’s don’t do it. When I buy a chocolate bar, I expect simple packaging, perhaps just a foil wrapper, not 1 cm thick cardboard on either side, making the product look two to three times its actual size. If the manufacturer would let the chocolate speak for itself instead of relying on deceptive packaging, the ratings would be far higher.
