Q: The instructions with this says to charge it for 16 hrs. before 1st use then it says to charge it for 1 1/2 hrs before 1st use which is it please?

I just started to use it and keep it plugged in between trims. Always had plenty of battery for every haircut.

Q: Can be used without the limit combs?

No, it'll cut your scalp without the clear comb. It can be turned down very low, though. I think 2mm is lowest, and that's pretty close. Close enough that I have a mole that still got cut up even with the comb on.
