THI STUFF WORKS!!
This stuff is unbelievable. "Odormute" neutralizes organic odors; not covers them up, chemically breaks down the offensive compound. Kennels use the stuff to control odors. I discovered Odormute when my dog got skunked bad. Odormute eliminated the odor. Really. The stuff is miraculous.

Destroys any odor!
I've previously used several "pet odor" products, such as Natures Miracles. Even after following their direction, days later after the masking scent subsided - I could still smell the urine through the carpet. So could the dog, because they'd return to the frequent spots. I tried to soak it, hoping it would go down to the pad, I really didn't want to have to replace my carpet and padding because he kept using the bathroom in our den constantly. This product definitely changed my view and options, and ultimately saved me a good amount of money. The instructions are pretty clear, and I usually mix a bit stronger than what they recommend (instructions say its safe just expedites the enzyme process). I'd note the following : * 1tbsp per quart of mixture for pets/general. * Use warm to hot water, at least for an initial mix. * Don't mix more then you need at the time - the enzymes are activated once you mix the powder with water. It's effectiveness is greatly reduced if you use an old mixture. ( This is really the only drawback of it ). * Cleaning on carpet - spray it generously and let it soak for about an hour. Go back afterwards and blot it up with paper towels, then put a fan on the area. If you let it soak without a good drying cycle - it has a bitter smell to it. Retreating it resolves. I found this out on some outdoor turf/carpet we have on our porch. * If you're cleaning an entire carpet: you can mix a tbsp of this in with your carpet cleaner (only water, dont mix your other carpet cleaning solution yet), go over your whole carpet with this, lightly drying it w/ the vacuum cycle. Let it sit for an hour at the most then go back and vacuum up/dry up the rest of the carpet the best as possible. After this go over the whole carpet with your regular cleaning solution. It's two passes with the steamvac or whatever you have, but it's well worth it. Good for major/frequent problems or if you're moving into a new home. I also recommend Hoover Platinum Collection Pet Plus Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30035 for your carpet cleaning solution, by itself it works pretty decent. * For cats mix a bit stronger of a solution and soak it heavily. It also recommends mixing it in a smaller amount of warm water, then adding it to the rest. Only had to use it once for that, no repeat accidents there afterwards. Only other thing I'd note is this gets rid of skunk smell! I ran over a skunk one evening, unfortunately was unable to dodge it and maintain the lane, and the smell was horrible. I parked the car 150ft away from the house at first and still couldn't be outside. Remembering this product I mixed about 2x the solution I usually use (eyeballed it) in hot water, and used about a gallon mix to soak two wheels, the wheel well, and underbody on the driver side (hit it about 3x over the course of a couple hours). Rinsed it off with the hose, product left no residual after effects, didn't effect the paint or anything else, and IT GOT RID OF THE SMELL (at least 95% - if I had treated it again/longer would've been fine). I didn't expect it to work so well, usually a smell like that lingers for many days, instead of a few hours. This is definitely the last product I intend to buy to clean up any pet accident or organic type odor.

So much better than Nature's Miracle and cheaper!
This doesn't contain all of the alcohol that makes up most of a bottle of Nature's Miracle, and you mix up ONLY what you need at a time with hot water - meaning that even if both formulas contained the exact sample cleaning enzymes, Odormute's would be far more effective because they just became active. I am so impressed with what a whole box of this stuff has done for our carpet. We have a diabetic rescue BT that had a tumor removed from her "lady area" and sometimes goes through bouts of incontinence. Not her fault, but not fun for us with brand new carpet in a rather expensive rental. We have a large Bissel carpet shampooer, so I tried the special Bissel Animal formula, tried filling it up with baking soda and water, and even tried some "animal smell neutralizer" I found at Home Depot that contained about a million warnings about not letting the dogs or children touch the carpets until fully dry and vacuumed. None of those things worked. And I have spent too many hundreds of dollars on Nature's Miracle over the years as an animal owner that I don't even want to think about it. I figured the Amazon community HAD to know something better as a solution and as always, you didn't let me down! I saw all the great recommendations and used this. It's no-nonsense, lasts forever, and leaves ABSOLUTELY NO SMELL on my carpets. NONE. Your carpets will smell like pee still while they are drying, but once they are done drying, it is absolutely amazing how there is NO smell. I mix up a tablespoon in a kitchen mixing bowl with very warm/hot water and really dump it into the carpet and work it around (SOAK IT!) and then leave a towel on over the course of the day if we have a spot accident. For monthly cleaning, I put a tablespoon in the soapy water canister of my Bissel carpet shampooer every time and it works AMAZINGLY. Besides working really well (a BIG thing to me) and being economical (EVEN BETTER!), this product is exceedingly safe for animals and humans alike. I have used my hands to work the liquid into the carpet and there is no itching, no bothering my very sensitive skin. It leaves your carpet soft and not feeling coated with something like the commercial carpet products. Kind of becoming an evangelist of this product - give it a try for sure.

Fairly effective, but requires fairly frequent application
This actually works better than the two other highly rated products Iโve tried (Simple Green Odor Eliminator and ProVetLogic Kennel and Turf Care). Of those, Simple Green was the least effective, just masking the odor for a brief period of time. ProVetLogic was only very slightly better. OdorMute is nice in that it comes as a powder that can be mixed as needed, doesnโt smell at all of a masking fragrance. More than any other solution Iโve tried, it seems to actually break down the odor. After the first application, I had to sniff to smell the dog urine smell the day after I applied it. The smell came back a bit after a few days, but not as strong. I believe with regular applications, this would do about as good a job as you could expect. Our situation is artificial turf, small area, roughly 15ft x 2ft and with a 30lb terrier peeing on it 3-5x day. So itโs granted a pretty tough situation. But I think this is worth trying if youโre having issues with pet urine smell.

Most reliable product
Works better because it lasts longer. Also no chemical smell which the top rated brand had. Will purchase again.

Getting the odor out.
I have used this product several times over many years. In the past I used it on my dogs and horse because of skunk spray. And as long as you only use this on the sprayed item, it will almost immediately neutralize the odor. Wherever the odor is, doors, furniture, clothes, pets, etc. it will eliminate the smell. I bought it this time because of my 2 male cats who spray in my house. I've tried other products and they just don't seem to work as well as Odormute. So now I will begin using this from now on.

Better than nothing for skunk odor, but still not great.
My dog was sprayed by a skunk and ran through my house before I realized what was happening. I pray that this never happens to anyone else. That's all I can say about that. I've tried so many things to get the smell out... baking soda+peroxide+dish washing liquid, Shaklee H2, straight baking soda, bleach, Nature's Miracle Enzyme treatment, and Odormute. I'm sad to say that NOTHING really truly works. But here's how each of these items stack up. *Baking soda + peroxide + dish washing liquid: worked ok for removing the actual skunk oil from my dog's fur, but barely touched the smell. I had these items onhand at the time (11 o'clock at night) so using them was better than plain soap and water. *Shaklee H2: Didn't harm my dog or any of my bathroom surfaces, but also didn't remove the smell at all. *bleach: I only applied bleach to all surfaces in my bathroom, and I thought, just for a minute or two, that it might have actually worked. Turns out it only covered up the smell for a short period of time. On a positive note, you could have performed surgery on any surface of my bathroom after that. Very clean. Straight baking soda: I sprinkled box after box of baking soda directly on all carpets and rugs in my house, then vacuumed. It did actually remove a lot of the smell. I had to treat about 5 times, and though the smell lingered faintly, the bulk of the odor was eliminated. The fine baking soda dust also seemed to take a lot of the smell out of the air as I was sprinkling it around my house. I combined this technique with opening the windows and letting in lots of air flow, and this seemed to make a decent difference in the smell. However, like the next two products, the smell came back a few hours later. Read on. Nature's Miracle: When I first applied this solution, I thought I had finally found something that might work. Chemically, it seemed to make sense. Skunk odor has sulfur components in it, and the enzymes in the solution claimed to "neutralize" the odor. After applying it to my dog, my carpets, my clothes, and pretty much every surface of my home, the "skunk" smell turned into the smell that your hair has after you get a perm. This gave me a glimmer of hope. Perm solution also contains sulfur components, and the neutralizer treatment during the second half of a perm changes the odor of the first half treatment. I thought for sure this meant that chemically, Nature's Miracle was reacting with the sulfur components of the skunk odor. Well, turns out that it was doing just that, but again, it only lasted about 2 hours. The smell came right back. What a let-down. Lastly, Odormute. Mixed it up, applied it, and got the same after-perm smell as Nature's Miracle. Waited, and sure enough, the smell comes back. To Odormute's credit, I did try several other things first, and because Amazon took 5 days just to process and ship it (PLUS shipping time!), the skunk odor was pretty fully "set" into everything in my house. Had I been able to apply it immediately, I might have gotten better results. Never-the-less, each application does decrease the odor by a little bit. And when it comes to skunk odor, a little bit is better than nothing. Also, it takes much, much less Odormute to treat the same surfaces as Nature's Miracle, so I recommend buying Odormute instead. Here's the bottom line: Nothing but time really truly works to eliminate skunk odor. But, since Odormute does decrease the smell a little more each time you apply it, it's worth having and worth using. It's safe for all surfaces including pets and yourself, so that's nice. I recommend buying it in advance, because when your dog gets sprayed at 11 o'clock at night, YOU NEED SOMETHING, ANYTHING, IMMEDIATELY. Trust me. And bless their little hearts, dogs will find a skunk when you least expect it.

This stuff works great!
This stuff works great, and the price can't be beat considering it can make several gallons. You need to know, for it to work you really have to soak the stain. The product has to come in direct contact with all of the smell for it to do it's job. Soak well, let it sit for at least 30 minutes and then soak it up well. Repeat if the smell still lingers when mostly dry (it usually doesn't). This is NOT something you can just put in a spray bottle and mist the spot and expect it work, it won't like that. Here's one way I use it. For couch cushions I remove the covers (mine are colorfast if wet) and soak them in a huge mixing bowl of the solution for at least 30 minutes. I then put the covers in the washing machine and just turn it to the spin cycle to spin out the water so they're mostly dry. In the mean time I pour the solution from the mixing bowl into a large plastic tote container and let them soak in it as well. After a good soak everything goes out into the sunshine to dry thoroughly. Smells are gone! I've never found anything else that would get couch cushion non-smelly again without spending a small fortune since the volume you get is usually pretty small for the price. So how much does one box make? One tablespoon makes one gallon of basic solution. At this concentration you get 20 gallons from the 1 lb box. This is the strength they recommend for getting smells out of concrete, kennels, carpets, upholstery, litter boxes, garbage cans, smoke, diaper pails, etc. For skunk odors they recommend 1 tablespoon per quart. For clothes in a washing machine dissolve 3 tablespoons in a pint of water, then add the mix to washing machine, allowing clothes to soak in machine for one hour before washing as usual. 1 tablespoon can also be mixed in with fresh cat litter to keep the litter box odors at bay. The enzyme powder must be mixed with warm water to activate. Anything from 45 to 140 degrees F will work, but anything over 140 will kill them and it won't work (so don't use boiling water!). Solution should be used within 4 hours for best results. I should note, I use it at about twice the strength recommended in the instructions to make it work faster, and just because I want to be absolutely sure the smells are gone the first time around. Probably works fine at the label rate, but I've just always doubled it.

More than 5 stars!
Worth more than 5 stars! I bought this because my cat had peed in the corner of the living room several times over several months. There is an air vent on the exterior wall right in that spot and I think they could smell a stray tom marking outside. I tried everything to get rid of the smell, but as we all know, cat urine is notorious. I ended up cutting out the offending piece of carpet and throwing it away, only to discover the smell was in the floor boards. Just as I am thinking I would have to get a joiner in to redo part of my living room floor, I did some research as a final resort and bought this. I cooked it up last night in a 500ml spray bottle with warm water and treated the entire corner of the living room with it, including the floor boards, just in case. I used all of the 500ml. I then went to bed so everything could dry overnight. When I got downstairs this morning, I went over to the corner, had a sniff, got quite close to everything and there was a major improvement. I might need to do it again, but considering how it was before, I am amazed. I now no longer dread going into that corner of the room or having to smother it with air freshener if someone is coming over. Excellent product.

AMAZING!
I am so impressed! I bought a house and there was a storage room under the stairs where the previous owners kept their cat litter box - or maybe they just let their cat pee in there - I don't know. But it smelled so bad I could barely force myself to go in to clean it. I tried everything to get rid of the smell. I scrubbed down the whole room - it didn't do a thing. So I bought some expensive pet odour destroyer from a pet supply store and sprayed the entire room (walls, floor and ceiling) but it hardly made any difference at all. Then I bought a Lampe Bergere ($$$$$!) and tried that - no success. I got the Odormute today, mixed it up and soaked the room with it. 20 minutes later there is NO SMELL!! I can barely believe it. This is the best product EVER.
