I have no answer other than “cheaper” to make in China but this is indeed disappointing from a respected German brand. It would probably poison me using it. I wish I read some of reviews before buying. My current old Krups was great, the bottom burner got too old & pilling off. If you are making more than 3 1/2 cups, you will have spillage. It is impossible to pour a cup of coffee from this carafe if there is more than 4 cups in it. We make a FULL pot and for the first couple of cups it has to be poured over the sink. It is HOT at first, but maybe cools down a little quicker than I would like.
