I’ve used Kilner jars for years, but this was the first time I bought the 3L ones. Honestly, they’re giants I clearly underestimated the size when I clicked “buy.” My cupboards are far too small for them (British cupboards never seem made for actual storage, do they?), so now I just have these enormous jars sitting proudly on the counter like trophies. That said, the quality is what I’ve come to expect from Kilner. The glass feels nice and solid compared to the cheap, flimsy alternatives you can pick up in town. Yes, if you drop it, it’ll smash it’s glass, not stainless steel – but the thickness feels reassuring. The clips aren’t as stiff as some of my older jars, but I actually prefer that. I once had one clamp so tightly it cracked the jar itself over time. These still seal well thanks to the deep rubber ring, but without that “snap shut and pray” moment. The reason I went for 3L is to finally store a whole 1.5kg bag of flour in one go. The 2L ones just don’t cut it, and I was fed up with flour mites creeping into opened bags. No such problem here – airtight, roomy, and practical. So yes, they’re huge, heavy, and take up half my kitchen… but they’re Kilner, they’ll last, and I wouldn’t swap them for the bargain-bin versions.

Please take a look at my photos We have been buying these clip top jars for various uses over the years, and they offer both exceptional value for money and versatility in their use. They have all arrived safely, well-padded and protected. What I really appreciate from these types of jars is that their width represents how wide their opening is at the lid. They are equally as wide to get access to put content in, and remove it, as they are wide. We have used them to store various pastas, lentils or barley, as well as other food stuffs. Their perfectly sealed, and airtight, clasp fastening lid, easy to operate, is perfect to ensure that no moisture of air gets into the content, or escapes from the inside. In one jar we have poured a full packet, 1KG, of pure salt, kosher type. It has never attracted any moisture inside and remained free and granular, the seals are perfect. The glass is thick, the jars themselves being very solid and stable. Ours have taken a few knocks and bangs over the years and yet none of them have broken. Even the ones that I have used in my garage to store odds and sods, typically nits, bolts, nails and screws. I have included photos of a particular type of use, not typical, but we also use these jars to store our fermenting kefir. I remove the lids and mechanism from a couple of jars, so they can be rotated in use, and the wide access is absolutely perfect to spoon in the kefir to the milk, and then to pour it out when fermented into a sieve. A std type of jar, with a narrowed neck, would not be suitable. I wanted to illustrate how good these are due to how wide their openings are, just perfect. Perfect for both access as well as cleaning. As mentioned, these jars can be most versatile in their use, not restricted to needing to keep their lids and clasping mechanisms, if not needed. Over the years the silicon type seals have always remained flexible, never cracking. We have washed those seals on various jars, and none have deteriorated over the years, nor stained. The stainless-steel claps have never rusted, nor are there any sharp edges. I could not find fault with these jars, great value, durable and effective seals. Recommended.
