Review: Cute but quality is not great. - I was disappointed when I opened this product, but from previous reviews I feel ours is not as bad as others. The barn doors have a really bad paint touch up job and the barn doors don't slide easily and are not aligned properly. The dog has very strange colours and the neon goat horns?? Luckily my 2 year old didn't even notice but my 5 year old thought they were weird. Overall the product is not too bad and my toddler is too small to notice paint jobs but, but it is definitely not the usual Melissa and Doug quality. There is no latch to lock it so it will open if you carry it around. I also think it will lead to the main hinge breaking.

That's the case when we can say: "less is more", for few quality toys will flourish child's development and will have a huge impact on kid's intellectual growth, while the poorly made trinkets will end up in the garbage bin before your kid had outgrown them. During the last years, I bought quite a lot of "Melissa & Doug" - toys, games, playsets, puzzles and costumes and despite having kids that have that common to boys "anything can destroy" gift, "Melissa & Doug" toys still make it through. Pretend play is a very important part of the child's development that brings out creativity, imagination, dexterity, helps to develop motor and social skills. "Melissa & Doug" toys are great educational tools that help kids to develop different skills and raise their intelligence.

**Q: Would the fisher price farm animals fit?**
A: I looked at the fisher price farm animals - too bad they don't mention their size - the barn is probably larger, but they would definitely fit & would be cute.

**Q: What is the recommmended age for this toy?**
A: I gave this to my granddaughter when she was 2/3 years old and she is now 6 and plays with it daily. She tells me that is her favorite toy....Hope that helps

**Q: Age appropriate for two yr old**
A: Yes, it is.  I bought it for my daughter on her 2nd birthday, she has played with it ever since.  She is 4 now and still loves it.

**Q: Is this appropriate for a 1 year old? Are the animals made of wood as well?**
A: I think it is more appropriate for a 2 year than 1 year.  The animals are made from very sturdy material, probably not wood,  and are covered in material that looks like hair.  My great granddaughter was 2 when I got them for her.  She loves them still and is nearly 4.
