Very sturdy at full extension. Sharp edges.
Item is very sturdy at full extension. would have no trouble holding a dozen potatoes or more. Only issue i have is 1- some of the edges are sharp. Some people may get cut if not careful. easy fix- get a 120 gritt sanding pad at HD or amazon for $4 and buff down the sharp pieces 2 the rivets used on the sliding mechanism allows the unit to easily extend and contract. Which means MAYBE when pouring a big bowl of pasta in it it might move. Easy fix- use pliers to crush one rivet tight. 3- not a problem, but beware it might scratch some sink lips. depends on your type of sink. easy fix- get a product called "plastic dip" and coat the handles of the strainer. Im buying a second one just to keep as a backup.

Short
Measure your sink before buying. Even with pull out extension, it did not reach so I have it the width way since I have a split sink. It doesn't sit evenly since the sink divider is lower but it works to wash fruits and veggies. Only thing is that it doesn't drain thoroughly since it's draining part is little holes . But it does the job I wanted for cleaning fruits and veggies.

Great for Certain Sinks
This design is an interesting idea. Overall, it does work as advertised, and it is quite well made. But do you need it? We have a three bin kitchen sink in stainless. This is PERFECT. It fits the middle sink beautifully and stays put. But if you have a regular sink then I don't see the point. It's kind of small as colanders go, and in a regular sink you can just drop in a jumbo round colander and rinse a gallon of berries. Again, it is well made, but the sliding mechanism means cleaning is a bit more of a chore. Food can get caught in between the two halves and it must be flushed out thoroughly when washing. I didn't mind setting it on a stainless sink, but we used to have a porcelain cast iron sink and I wouldn't let this near it. The edges aren't rolled, so there is a risk of scratching. Value? If you can use one it's an OK deal. If not, look elsewhere.

Nice addition for extra draining & straining!
I have very limited sink and counter space in my kitchen, so I always keep an eye out for tools that will streamline my cooking efforts. This over-the-sink collander is a great help in that direction. Absolutely no assembly is required. I just pulled it out of the box, washed it off, and extended it over my sink. My first use was to strain cooked pasta. It worked beautifully! Due to its stainless steel construction, it is sturdy and allows for very easy cleanup.I do wish it could extend an additional inch or two to accommodate varying size sinks (my double bowl sink has two different sizes). I also think it would be more useful if it was a bit wider. Although it was great for draining pasta, it would not accommodate a quantity of larger fruits or vegetables for cleaning/draining. Additional width would also allow it to hold more glassware, mugs, etc. when extra dish drainage space is needed. Overall, however, I feel this is a nice addition to any kitchen!

304 stainless, expandable to fit various sizes sink.
This is a smaller version of the same product carried by the same "DOPMEP" company. I like it and wish they had a bigger version of it to allow me to do more. And yes they do! I ordered it and now I have a pair of them. I prepare a lot of fruits and veggies, and drain big batches of pasta and noodles sometimes. I prefer the bigger version: 17" (fully extended length) x 8.11" wide x 3.15" depth vs. this smaller one: 17" (fully extended length) x 6" wide x 2.36" depth. Caution: the edge, although polished, is kind of thin (but not sharp), and will scratch up the edge of the porcelain type of sink in the long run. I have equal portion double stainless steel sinks and it fits perfectly in either one of them. Please refer to my other review on the bigger version as well.
