(SPOILER) *by N***K on Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2009* I love to read christian fiction and so I am not stuck only on authors I know, so I gave this book a try. However, sadly to say this was not one of my best purchases. The story line was interesting enough. Randal, a "Christian" young man who really loves the Lord is in love with this beautiful black goddess named Amaryillis. However, he's so in love that he is living in sin, living and sleeping with a woman who he isn't married to or who isn't a Christian. He struggles with this contradiction in his life as he tries to do right by the Lord. He is hopeful that one day Amaryillis will come to know the Lord soon. With his best friend as his pastor and conscience, Randal is constantly trying the avoid the conversation of leaving Amaryillis and flying right. It isn't until Randal sees his love swinging from a poll at some guy's bachelor party that he gets a clue and kicks her to the curb. But Miss Amaryllis is not going to be out done and seeks revenge on good ole Randall.Now the plot thickens...Sounds interesting right? Yeah, right until you realized that it was all a setup and this great story fizzles into nothingness when you realize that you still have about a quarter more book to read and the climax has passed. The story now moves from Randall being a big baby and crying over how Amaryllis stole all of his furniture from his apartment and how his life is over to him driving down the road in a car getting gps signals from God leading him to his new gigantic house that he can somehow afford on his meager subway train operator salary. (Whew that was a mouthful)The story wasn't believable much and the book just seemed to go on and on. The best part of this book came in the first half as you saw the main character struggle with living right and loving hard. Amaryllis was the spice that brought the flavor and the flame. When her character left so early in the book so did my taste for the story. The story that followed seemed unoriginal and boring. However, in the final few lines of the book the author does spike your curiosity with re-emergence of Amary. To note the follow up to this book called Amaryllis was way better than this one and worth a read. Amaryllis (Urban Christian) Overall, I would pass on this book but who I am kidding I just love to read so I may have read it anyway. Hope this helps you decide. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just Because It Glitters...Doesn't Mean It's Gold *by C***M on Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2015* This was my first read by Nikita L. Nichols (but it won't be my last. The author penned a fantastic work on the desires that man may possess that are not in align with what God would want or have for us. Randall had a desire for a beautiful woman and tragedy would strike. Unlike what is typically revealed in unequally yoked relationships...the author illustrated how challenging yet loving loved ones...who are saved...can help you to get back what the devil attempts to destroy. The author also illustrates, without being too preachy and distributing a host of religious platitudes, how Randall had to "come to himself" in order to receive the abundance that is bestowed to every man through repentance. Randall's downward spiral, antics exhibited by his catch and behaviors of family, friends and loved ones is indicative of support systems and characters we may know or roles we have or may play in the lives of others. Cordell, Randall's Pastor and friend, was awesome in every sense of the word. A Man's Worth is a 5 star read. Strongly recommended.....he was not so holy than thou that he was no earthly good! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book is a good read *by S***Y on Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2011* This is a good read. It's so funny how the guy in the story behaves. It kinda feels unrealistic. This book is like when you're watching a movie and the main character is doing something wrong and you're talking to the TV saying 'no don't do that' or 'don't open the door' but of course they don't listen. I would recommend you buy it if you want a good read. It isn't extremely exciting but its ok.
