Ensure your lamp base mount fits over the mount base for lamps. We have a problem with spiders invading inside the lamp, so I sealed the base with a foam strip (light grey) and a gasket underneath the base mount. I also sealed the lamp cap (top piece) with 1/8" insulation strips.

I needed a mount for my new outdoor lamp to put on my wood lamp post. After measuring the size I needed, I found this item for a reasonable price and was made of metal. I had no problem installing the device into the 50 year old lamp post but I did use 3" screws to ensure the item was screwed into wood that was not rotted or dried out. The item did not come with screws, but was in a box and wrapped in plastic; nice touch. I would recommend this item if anyone is in need of a mount for their outdoor lamp. Ensure your lamp base mount fits over the mount base for lamps. We have a problem with spiders invading inside the lamp, so I sealed the base with a foam strip (light grey) and a gasket underneath the base mount. I also sealed the lamp cap (top piece) with 1/8" insulation strips.

I took a chance by ordering this for a 'non-standard' purpose, but it worked out quite well. The piece is well made, with a minimum of mold flashing that had to be filed off to make it fit, and it is quite sturdy. It survived a snowy New England winter without complaint.
