Sharp, well balanced, perfect for preparing Chinese food. It’s very easy to end up with too many knives so as a retired chef I have tried to minimise my knife collection. This cleaver is the final piece of my knife set. I now have a set of 6 knives that I can use to prepare anything I need to. This maker is a recent addition and their knives are very good value for money and sit very well alongside my other knives.

A great all rounder knife for home cooks, effective and versatile. Shan Zu have a mixed reputation, most of it earned, but they don't lie about their knives, you're getting what you pay for and what is described, they're reliable. This knife is fantastic for home cooking, and relatively easy to learn to use compared to a western knife. It will take a bit of getting used to if you don't typically use cleavers, but I find it does all the jobs I need it to well. The reason I say it's good for home cooking, rather than all purposes, is because unless you're a stronger and more energetic person, it can become tiring to use because it's quite a hefty blade. I could chop about 3-5 kilos of onions with this by the time I get tired, ditto for potatoes and root vegetables (though they have a tendency to stick to the blade due to its flat grind. The largely flat grind makes it a bit of a pain to sharpen, but the blade itself is hard and stands up to most work, even chopping smaller poultry bones. Any bone an inch or thicker though and you may find your knife chipped in my experience. A benefit of the grind is that the side of the blade can be used to crush and grind garlic with salt very well. Overall, it's a nice knife, especially for the price, id recommend a smaller knife to anyone with smaller hands or less mass than the average cook. Likewise to less experienced cooks.

This knife isn’t just a kitchen tool—it’s a game changer. When it arrived, I half expected a medieval knight to deliver it to me, declaring it "Excalibur of the Kitchen." It’s absurdly sharp—so sharp that I’m pretty sure it sliced through time itself when I cut through a particularly stubborn bone. Swinging this thing around makes you feel like a butcher, a chef, and a lumberjack all rolled into one. Vegetables? Sliced. Meat? Obliterated. Cutting board? Slightly terrified. Be warned, though—this cleaver is not for the faint of heart or the weak of wrist. It demands respect. Use it responsibly, or your countertop (and possibly your toes) will pay the price. In summary, this cleaver is less of a knife and more of a life choice. Buy it if you’re ready to channel your inner Viking every time you make dinner. Just don’t let it catch you looking at other knives—you’ll hurt its feelings.

We use to cut chickens into 4 pieces for dogs breakfast. Best knife so far for that, size perfect for quartering chickens. Come in lovely box and knife looks great.

This knife has proven to be an excellent addition to the kitchen. I truly appreciate how effortlessly it slices through vegetables, meat, and fish.

The knife has a great weight and feel and the edge was quite good when received. I will have to see how it lasts over time and how it holds an edge, but for now it seems great.
