Can the unit be hardwired?** A: Hi, Felix. The HUD does not have a battery, so there is nothing to recharge. It must be plugged in in order to be used. But it has a memory, so unplugging it and replugging it doesn't affect the settings. I do it all the time, because I don't want the unit to be "on" when the car is parked, especially in public, and my accessory power socket (aka "cigarette lighter") is always hot. I suppose you could hardwire the unit, but why would you want to? (Messing with your car's wiring is frequently a Bad Idea.) The unit is designed to be powered through the power cord they provide, and I would suggest not using anything else. I don't know how much voltage the unit works on, but it may not be a straight 12v.
