This is the BEST thickener we have used for my loved one. I do not follow the directions exactly. I pour the liquid into the cup first, then I stir the liquid with a fork constantly, while adding the thickener powder one scoop at a time. That way, it doesn't clump. You have to constantly stir while adding the powder to the liquid. We use a different thickener sometimes, only because our insurance pays for a certain prescription product; so we have no choice. But that other product doesn't work nearly as well. It is starch, and it loosens up if mixed with Miralax or certain fruit juices; it doesn't maintain the thickness. I have to go back and add more after a while of it sitting. So, this Dysphagia Aide is the winner for us. It works wonderfully with the Miralax and all fruit juices. It maintains the thickness and doesn't loosen up after a few minutes. What I mean by that, is once the liquid is thickened, it stays thickened. I don't have to worry about adding more powder if the liquid sits a while before it gets drank. I am so happy we found this, been using it for several years. I just wish our insurance covered it. They only cover certain brands.

this thickener has been a LIFE SAVER in helping my mom who suffers with dysphasia and severe swallowing impairment. It leaves no reside, no aftertaste and no chalky texture. Just make sure to spoon in the powder in a dry cup BEFORE pouring in the fluid. And mix it with a spoon immediately after pouring in the liquid for best results. I let it sit for 20 mins prior to giving it to my mom because it does its magic process in thickening up in this 20 mins. This is our 5th purchase of this product. Highly recommend!!!

It's good for its purpose, but no matter what I will not get 'used' to having to deal with swallowing issues.

Edit: This is more a seller issue than a product one, but the price of this product has almost tripled since I last ordered them on January 15th. At that time it was $49.85 for the 400g container. I looked at it today and it's $133.65! And the US tariffs haven't even started yet?? Most people who have dysphagia are elderly, and are on fixed incomes, as my mom is. How are they supposed to afford this now?? I'm so disgusted. I've been taking care of my mom who has dysphasia for almost 5 years now. I had been using the more well-known brand until this year. It's very expensive to buy here in Canada. I thought I'd try this brand, just to see if it was as good. It turns out, it's even better! I make 7 or 8 glasses up at a time. I put the thickener in each glass and with the other brand, I was unable to add the juice to all of them at once or the thickener would clump up - a pain in the butt. With this brand, it dissolves more quickly, so I can pour them all at once. The only other step is making sure you stir it for around 30 seconds. I bought some silicone covers for all of the glasses, so when I put them in the fridge, they are still perfect two days later. I definitely recommend this product. It's literally a life saver!

I have tried a few thickeners and this one wins hands down for me. I don't mix it exactly as the directions say. I do use the amounts recommended, but I put all the powder I need for the task into a small bowl and pour my liquid into a mason jar style glass with lid. With the bowl in one hand and the lid in the other, I add the powder, secure the lid and shake it like crazy! I shake for 30 to 40 seconds. I don't have to wait for it to set this way. It is ready for a straw. If I'm delayed in mixing even for a few seconds though, it clumps and is hard to remedy. That's why the two handed quick trick. The best feature of this powder over the others is that it doesn't continue to thicken after it is thoroughly mixed. I can mix it, let my husband drink what he wants, then store the rest back in the fridge without it turning too thick to use. It stays at the same consistency once it has achieved its distribution into the liquid. There is NO taste to this thickener and it doesn't change the color of the beverage. Other thickeners leave water cloudy. This one has bubbles after I shake the snot out of it, but it is still clear. Same with tea. I have used it for a carbonated beverage a few times. If it has any carbonation in it at all, it foams up immediately. Fortunately for me, my husband is fine with 'flat' sodas so I work diligently to get the carbonation out of the soda before thickening it. This is my go to thickener forever more. And their customer service is exceptional!
