Silverback NXT 54" Wall Mounted Basketball Hoop, Indoor / Outdoor Basketball Hoop with QuickPlay Design

I was apprehensive about finding an affordable good quality hoop and backboard that would attach to my carport and offer both sturdiness and height adjustability. Yesterday I finished the installation and it is absolutely perfect. I seldom write reviews but feel compelled to share my satisfaction when a product is actually better than anticipated. Since the unit is so new I can't vouch for its longevity but I am a 70 year old handyman and I have seen a lot of poor equipment being falsely advertised as "quality." So what makes it so good? The steel is thick and extra stable. The nuts and bolts go together easily and stay together with the locknuts threading beautifully. The rim is incredibly sturdy. And the fit and finish is superb at this price level. I guess you can tell that I am a very satisfied customer who is often quite critical (just ask the Mrs.:-)) So far I believe this hoop will be a winner with my 5 kids and 5 grandkids. It adjusts smoothly to different heights. If there is one thing I predict could be a problem it will likely be the shiny plexi surface which will probably look pretty bad by the end of the summer due to scuffing. So not perfect but still a definite 5 star. Did I say it was also beautiful? and did I say the installation manual was about the best I have ever seen with any product? Kudos to the company who put the time, effort and expense into this feature which makes installation a doable thing for many.

I am pleased with the product. It appears to be quality construction and materials. The directions are easy to follow. As many have noted, the assembly time stated assumes that the mounting surface is already prepared and structurally sufficient to support the hoop. For me, the real challenge is preparing the mounting area, which the manufacturer cannot really help. When shopping, I was considering multiple hoops, but chose this one for its largely positive reviews, the company appeared supportive of its products, and I liked the relatively small footprint of the mounting bracket. In final assembly steps, before tightening the screws that attach the back board to the adjustable frame, put a level on the backboard to so you can tighten everything nice and square. I was not comfortable the gabled wall of my garage could reliably support the hoop, so my solution was to make a steel frame using strut channel behind the wall so the load of the hoop would be carried by center beam and garage door header. Yes, I could have used wood, but the strut channel was available to me and fit better with my tooling. My garage is vinyl sided and I did not think it would be a good look to clamp the siding behind the hoop bracket; also, I think this would create some instability in the connection, so I used 1-1/2” aluminum tube with 1/4” wall thickness to create corrosion resistant stand-offs between the strut channel frame and hoop bracket that keeps the siding from being clamped behind the hoop. I cut 1-3/4” holes (in hindsight, I wish I’d used 1-5/8” holes) in the siding where the stand-offs would go so there is only an 1/8” gap to seal. I used 5/16” grade 8 screws with lock nuts which I torqued to ensure maximum clamping force.

Does the job just fine! The instructions are as noob friendly as possible. The diagonal brace behind the board does a good job of insuring the ball bounces firmly off the board. The rim is great quality. The screws are zinc plated and quality steel. Easy to lower and raise for the kiddos. Things to note: 1. The backboard has a side wall and given it's plexiglass and will eventually become brittle and break it will be impossible to find a replacement board unless you buy the exact one from them. 2. The distance of the mounting holes that secure it to the wall are not 16 on center so you'll have to add studs in the wall to secure it properly. 3. Make sure you face the head of the screws that hold the mounting plate that attaches to the back of the board towards the center of the board (see picture). If you face the 4 screws the wrong way they will interfere with the pivot of the backboard.

Ok, so the finished product is perfect. And assembly of the hoop itself is pretty easy. The only issue is no hardware to actually mount the hoop to any structure is included and the instructions do not give you any guidance or recommendations on what you need either. I understand this is probably because people might mount this in a variety of different ways to varying structures. But a little guidance or recommendations would have been helpful. I ended up using 5/16-in x 8-in Carriage Bolts. 5/16 is the largest size that will fit through the mounting bracket. I was able to get 99% of the installation done by myself, but I had scaffolding. Still needed another person to hold as I attached the backboard to the mounting bars. Good value and getting great use out of it.

First, once its up there, this goal looks great. The backboard is plexiglass, so it feels kind of cheap, but it performs like any other backboard and rebounds true. However, it is very much a two man job, possibly three when you are doing the final attachment. If the backboard was aa heavier material, I'm not sure you could do it without some sort of crane or pully system. The instructions are hard to follow, so take your time. The biggest thing you need to be careful of is the height you attach the bracket to the wall. The goal moves up and down a few feet, but if you aren't careful, and install the bracket to low, you will not be able to crank the goal high enough to get to 10 feet. I made that mistake with my initial measurements and had to fill some holes.

Installed this in about 2 hours total working time. The closeup of the mount shows my solution for vinyl siding mounting. I cut out 3/4" plywood in the shape of the mount, traced it out the siding then cut the siding with an oscillating cutter. I painted the plywood with exterior paint then screwed it to the underlying board with exterior deck screws. I then proceeded with the installation and caulked the plywood and vinyl siding with 100% silicone sealant. I was heavy handed with it but did not exceed the specifications of the sealant. Came out great. I was able to do the installation by myself but a helper might have been beneficial though not entirely necessary with a sturdy ladder. I've shot around for about a day and it has been a truly great hoop. I can't imagine a better value for the money and this will be up for years. It will get a LOT of sun so I hope the poly carb backboard is good for it else a uv blocking clear coat might be worth the hassle to apply. It's very sturdy when shooting but if you really hammer on it there is some deflection. I dunked a few times at 9 feet and it felt good. I didn't hang on the rim at all. The kids are already loving it and it has to be one of my favorite updates to the garage.

My basketball build turned out great. I liked the Silverback backboard and rim, but I was not impressed with the post that they sold with it in other packages. My solution was to build my own post and mount the wall mounted Silverback to it. Turned out great. I was able to use a 3"x8"x13.5' post, then I had to fabricate some "ears" out of angle iron for a couple of the mounts. This thing is rock solid. All the hardware that comes with it is overkill which is great. Assembly was pretty straightforward as long as you use some common sense. If you are wanting a heavy built goal to outlast your kids. Do what i did. Buy this wall mount goal, build your own post and install it yourself.

Perfect home backboard for aspiring hoopsters. Attractive and easy to adjust height. Somewhat challenging to mount, best handled by a professional (we used our usual contractor). No issues at all through a season of sun, wind, rain, and snow.

Pros: Easy assembly, nice appearance. Cons: a bit pricey, good be made more heavy duty. Undersized frame (imo) and backboard could be a a bit thicker. Very functional with good quality hoop.

I purchased this basketball board because it was advertised as a professional-grade product made with professional materials. I trusted the description and felt the price was fair for a high-quality, tempered glass board. Cheaper boards made from fiberglass or plexiglass are available for under $200, but I chose to pay around $800 for this one, plus another $500 for professional installation. Unfortunately, once it was installed, I discovered that the board is not made of tempered glass as advertised. The material feels cheap, and the bounce response is completely off — definitely not what you'd expect from a true glass backboard. That was the entire reason I made this purchase. The rest of the setup is just some basic metal framing, brackets, and bolts — nothing that justifies the high price if the board itself isn't what was promised. Now I’m stuck with the hassle of paying someone to dismount it and dealing with return shipping — if they even accept the return. This has been a major disappointment and a waste of time and money. At this price, you could buy three boards of similar quality elsewhere. Don’t trust the product description. It’s misleading.
