This cold pack worked awesome when my back was hurt. the large size makes it ideal for icing down any large area. other similar packs of the regular smaller size just don't compare. with them i used to use 3 and would ice for almost an hour. with this and 15 min things are getting to chilly :) only minor hang up is it is heavy because of all the gel in it

This takes longer to heat than I expected and compresses when used. I got it to heat the carseat for my son but have found that if I lay it in and up the back of the seat all of the 'clay' slides to the bottom of the seat. It does hold it's heat for a long time but is quite heavy, so if you're frail you might want to look at an alternative material. I think it's great for the places that are hard to put a traditional ice/heat pack on, like fingers, toes, and other joints.

I purchased this 'pack' recently and have been using it daily in "cold mode". For starters, it was shipped in a really sturdy UPS box that not only arrived undamaged, it wasn't even dented. That meant the pack itself was received in pristine condition. Up until now I'd been using hot/cold gel packs but I find the material used in this pack superior. It's less prone to have lumps form while freezing and b) any lump(s) that should appear is more easily flattened out than with gel-type packs. Application: I have some neuropathy presenting in the legs. This can cause aching and/or a burning sensation. The larger pack is the perfect size to place under both legs and extends from ankles to knees - so you can ice everything from achilles tendons, to calves, to lower attachment of the ilio tibial bands. Although this pack does not come with a separate slip-cover, I find that the wrap material used, in conjunction with the other-than-gel material used to heat/cool, is very comfortable when applied directly to exposed skin in cold mode. Obviously, the larger size will also take care of a whole heck of a lot of back muscles if your aches are above the waist. In short, I highly recommend this product!

I was disappointed because it is heavy. It is perfect for laying on but not for putting over body. It also takes up a bit of room in the freezer. Otherwise, it is exactly as it's description, it just did not fit my needs, which was over my injured shoulder, just too heavy - when I fell asleep - I woke up hurting more from the weight. I'm sure we will use at some point so it's put away for now.

I orginally bought this for my mother who had knee surgery recently. I liked the size so that it would wrap completely around her knee. I was not sure how long the coldness would last since it is filled with some clay like substance and not the common gel. Let me just say that this is worth the money. It holds it coldness for over 30-45 minutes and it softtouch covering there is no need to wrap a towel around it so that you do not get ice burn or to cold. Like I said I bought this for my mother but when she is done it will become mine. As I have migraines and usually have 2 or 3 ice packs surrounding my head on bad days. With this it just wraps around my whole head, or you can lay it flat then move your head where it hurts most to the pad. Once again with the soft touch covering no need for a towel to protect you nor does it sweat and make things damp or wet.Love Love Love

I've got long standing back pain and this was hands down some of the best money I've ever spent treating it. Definitely the best in terms of treating it at home. When I sit, it covers from the seat of wherever I'm sitting to at least the bottom of my ribs and around the sides of my back to about the center. If I need to be moving around I can 'tie' it to my body with my adjustable back brace. It stays cold much longer than I'm really supposed to have a cold pack on and gets freezingly cold again fast, yet never develops crystals on the surface. If for some reason I can't have it in the freezer (which has only happened a few times and all because of travel) it simply gets warm and turns cold again amazingly fast. I can probably manage to live without ice, but not this!!

When we got this and read the insturtions it said to use 30 second interveralswe found it taking upto 3 minutes to get warm them it said would be warm for an hourwell that might be so but after 1/2 hour it's not warm enought to be any good so back tothe microwwave. Wish it would have worked like advertized!!!

This pad is similar to what my physical therapist uses. It is a permanent item in my freezer, occupying little space, ready to go whenever I have muscle tightness after exercising. I am so impressed by the pack that I have given it as a gift. I wouldn't want to be without this item.UPDATED after recently talking with the recipient of the gift: my friend found a new use for the cold pack part. Going through menopause, she finds relief from hot flashes by using it. Who would have known?Also, I have learned that I prefer to store my pack permanently in the freezer to be available instantly when needed. Consequently I now plan to buy a second one to use for heat with back pains and not bother switching the pack from hot to cold. However, I would not want to discourage anyone from buying a single pack for both purposes. It is a great product.
