Fantastic Watch, but Seiko Needs to Ditch the Pin-and-Collar System
The Seiko SRPK01 PADI Special Edition, better known as the “Great Blue,” is still a five-star watch for me. It looks fantastic, wears extremely well, and is incredibly comfortable on the wrist. Despite being a substantial dive watch, it never feels cumbersome, and it has quickly become a watch I really enjoy wearing. That said, I have some serious complaints about the bracelet. First and foremost, Seiko needs to get rid of the pin-and-collar system. I already disliked it simply because it makes sizing the bracelet unnecessarily annoying, but I just had the watch almost fall off my wrist because one of the pins started working its way out. Fortunately, I noticed it before the watch hit the ground. That takes this from an annoyance to something I consider a legitimate design problem. The pin-and-collar system is ridiculous on a watch at this price point. Screw-in links are simpler, easier to service, and far more confidence-inspiring. There are significantly less expensive watches using screwed links, and there is no good reason Seiko shouldn't be doing the same here. The clasp is another disappointment. Again, considerably cheaper watches are available with nicely milled clasps, while this comes with stamped steel. It works, but it feels cheap compared with the rest of the watch. I'm also not impressed with the dive extension. It's functional, but I don't like the way Seiko implemented it. Honestly, I'd rather just remove it entirely, but unfortunately that's not really an option with this clasp design. Despite all of that, I'm still giving the SRPK01 five stars because the watch itself is that good. The Great Blue is comfortable, distinctive, beautiful, and a pleasure to wear. I just wish Seiko would give a watch at this price point a bracelet and clasp worthy of the rest of it—and retire the pin-and-collar system once and for all.

loses time
Seiko used to be premium brand. This one loses time, about 5 minutes every two weeks. And this is not a "cheap" watch. My old one wouldn't lose a minute a year

Beautiful watch with a tough military history.
The watch was what I was looking for, a tool watch that looked great and had the extra features such as the sapphire crystal. So far the watch loses about a minute per week and that is outstanding for the price point and an automatic watch. The lume is easily viewed all night long and is a pleasant blue tint. This has become my daily. There are reasons you may not want to wear a Rolex, Tudor or Omega in some situations. For me this is THE tool watch and the movement and durability has a rich history with the military starting with the Seiko 6309. These were worn in unreal conditions where you don’t wear a watch that can’t take it. Glad to get my hands on this Turtle. It wears great and is comfortable enough for me to wear at night while I’m sleeping. It may be a big case, but it wears as well for me as some of my 38mm cases.
