My habit with this carafe has been to come downstairs, take my morning vitamins, boil enough water to fill the carafe, then place a Melitta Cone Coffee Filter #6 inside the RSVP Manual Drip Coffee Filter Cone for Carafes or Thermoses, along with my coffee grounds, of course. I grind them using my favorite grinder, the Krups 203-42. I store my ground coffee in my Planetary Design Airscape airtight container for ultimate freshness. Now, on to the Carafe itself. This keeps my coffee hot for a very long time. After it has brewed, I go shower and complete my morning routine. Then I make breakfast and pour the coffee from the carafe. This holds enough to fill my Contigo Autoseal 16 oz. travel mug two times. And the coffee is just as hot later in the morning as it was when I poured the first mug. For me, coffee is an experience. My husband, not so much. He chugs in a few gulps for the caffeine alone, then he's on his merry way. It's criminal, really. Anyhow, I don't use soap to clean this carafe. I simply fill with water and swish it around a couple times. I store it without the lid on to give it a chance to thoroughly dry. The exterior is very easy to keep clean. Just swipe a damp rag around to remove any spots leftover from rinsing it under the faucet, wipe again with a dry rag to polish, and it looks as good as new. I've also taken it on the road. It's quite durable.No accidents so far. Hubby and I will fill up our mug before hitting the trail, then brew another carafe and take it on the road for another mug full for the both of us. I used to brew with a Cuisinart machine, but when my parents moved in with us, they kind of took over the coffee pot and set the timer to brew very early in the morning. Of course, the coffee that was left over had cooked on the burner and tasted nasty by the time I made my way downstairs. Not so with this carafe. In fact, now I prefer this any day over a traditional coffee pot. Coffee is such a big part of my morning routine. It's silly, but as I homeschool my way through each morning, I nurse the coffee from my mug made in this carafe and everything just seems a little more right with the world. Someone please tell my husband that coffee drinking should be an process, not an event. For me, at least, this little carafe is part of the enjoyable process.

Very good and practical flask. Managed to keep water hot / warm up to 2 days. Pleased with the performance.

No-nonsense thermal carafe that has everything that it needs and nothing unnecessary. Proven, timeless design from a brand that knows what is imporant in a thermal carafe. Works perfectly with all Japanese and American drip coffee filters. Coffee can be made direcly into the carafe and stays warm at least 12 hours. This is our 4th purchase of the carafe, replacement for a damaged one that resisted daily abuse in the office for the last 17 years. ------ I've returned to the review after several months. The carafe still works as expected, 5/5 stars.
