On the other hand once you turn on the unit it will start testing. **Q: Is this unit using capacitance or tdr to measure lenght? i know the pro using tdr.** A: According to the Ideal website in the models section the Pro has all of the previous model features and in addition to that it has TDR and some other features - Features All the features of the VDV II, VDV II Plus and... Distance to Open / Short (TDR) PoE Detection with Voltage Information Media Service Detection Ethernet Detection with Network Rate and Duplex Information. It also says on the features page that the pro has tdr - "Accuracy The flagship VDV II Pro utilises TDR to accurately measure cable length and provide distance to fault information. " I would assume this means that the plus does not have tdr, but that is a guess. The manual for the Plus model mentions the following in the length measurement section, "... Accurate length measurement relies on correct setting of the capacitance per unit length (C) of the cable to be tested." **Q: Does this kit come with the case and the 6 rj45 cable tracer objectors?** A: Yes it came with case , and inside the case there are a handful of cables for testing. Each one of my techs carry this or the VDV pro. We us it for every cable we install and terminate. It tells us the length of what we installed, for billing purposes. It tells us the pass or fail of the cable. We also use it to troubleshoot facilities where we have to test, identify, or verify a cable. It allows us to know if the cable is in a switch and then to make that switch port link light blink at a slow enough rate to easily identify the port the cable is on.
