What is the band width, and is it easy to replace the band? Don't really want the green cloth.

24mm band width. So when you order a replacement or any other band, look for one that says “24mm.”.

How well does the compass work on this watch? I also read some reviews that the digital section was too small to read, is that the case? Thanks!

The compass works great. The digital section is small and the 'reverse' readout isn't doing you any favors. If you have good eyes then it won't be a problem. I however at almost 50 had a hard time reading it. There is a cool function though, that when you are using the digital display to see various readouts, the analog hands move out of the way. And when you are done they return back to the correct time. One last note on this watch, is the band. I LOVE the band and I wish it was available on more of their watches.

How is the compass displayed?

Digitally, and the seconds hand will also point north.

The crown on mine is difficult to open(unscrew) and has a "gritty" feel when screwing and unscrewing, is this normal?

Either you have damaged threads or you've got some type grit...dirt, sand etc on the threads. Mine operates smoothly without a gritty feel.
