What are doing for customers that bought from the bad batch of balls?** A: I’m done buying X-40s. Purchased a dozen 4 months ago and have had them replaced 3 times by the seller. Every dozen has had 8 or more that wobble uncontrollably out of the box. I would highly recommend anyone in the market for a pickleball to look elsewhere until Franklin acknowledges this problem and fixes it. **Q: I just received these balls and there is an obvious seam on the outside where the two halves meet. Is this what rotationlly molded should be?** A: I had the same question, but got the answer from one of their representatives: “One-piece balls, like the X-40, are rotationally molded and will feature a mold mark where the two halves of the mold come together - similar to the edge of a waffle coming out of a waffle iron. We have this excess material removed so that it does not impact performance, but there is still a visible mark. You will notice the inside of the ball is smooth and does not feature the typical plastic weld you see on two-piece balls like our X-26.” **Q: What is the orange ball I see at outdoor venues? Is that the Franklin red ball turning to orange?** A: I see on Amazon FOUR (4) ball colors now (7/8/2021) for the outdoor Franklin 40's (F40's). Yellow and Pink have both been around for at least fours years now. However, they now have TWO Orange colored ones that they call 'EMBER' and 'LAVA' which look like two different shades of Orange to me. I have not tried the new colors. They do look nice. Finding the Orange or Lava and Ember in smaller quantities may take some looking around. They do have them all on Amazon in bulk though (a hundred at a time) cheaper than than by the dozen for sure. I see too, Ben Johns, #1 ranked men's player, is now advertising the F40's. Seems most of the venues with the better 3.5 players and up, seem to prefer the F40's, I think because they play close to the Dura 40's, but don't break as quick and are much less expensive. Some report some of these balls have a wobble problem. I am going to explore that some more. I thought it was an optical illusion, but now think maybe not. Still, I like these balls the best for the outdoors for the play and the money. I'd play the dura 40's if I had money to burn. I do not. **Q: Will these last when not in use? Want to buy 100 and keep a fair amount stored until I need them - will they "go bad"?** A: Not a direct answer to your question but out of the 100 I bought 50% had imperfections/dimples/out of round. I have not even gotten an reply or correspondence from Amazon or the manufacturer other a request to answer your question...LOL! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐ I cant' believe these are Franklins- soooooo disappointed *by on Reviewed in Canada 25 August 2022* I don't normally write negative reviews but buyer beware !!!! Being an avid Pickleball player, I can say Franklin is usually a well-known and trusted brand on the courts. But what happened to the Ember-colored balls??? I was so happy to find this color so I bought 100 outdoor ember balls. I wanted them for a pickleball machine I had on order. As well as practicing my serves etc.. without the machine. Well just this week I got my machine in and used the balls for 1/2 hour with the machine ( got rained out ) and all seemed well. So a couple of days later I took the balls to practice my serves and they have such little bounce! You know when you bounce the ball on the outdoor court, the ball will normally bounce up to around your belly, (depending on your height of course) but these bounce slightly above my knee!!! I'm only 5'2" This makes these balls totally useless for my serving as I do a drop serve. So please take it from me stay away from these balls! Either they are not Franklins or there is something terribly wrong with the ember-colored ones- Unfortunately for me I should have tried the balls when I got them, it is now past the return date- I can only hope this company will do right by me if they do I will definitely update you!! Happy Dinking !!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Buy in bulk to save money *by on Reviewed in the United States 28 December 2023* The Franklin X40 is probably the most widely used pickleball for outdoor play. The seams are slightly noticeable but generally do not affect play. The ember color is my favorite and stands out best in bright sunlight and dimmer settings.Buying in bulk reduced the price to under $2/ball which is great if you’re loading up ball machines or baskets to do drills and such. I’d definitely recommend this for others. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Pack of 100 seemed defective *by on Reviewed in Canada 8 August 2022* I use the X-40s for most of my outdoor play. Don't listen to the reviews that talk about a seam… it's just from the mold.Generally the X-40s are great balls, they play well for a long time before getting soft and losing their roundness. They don't tend to crack as their first point of failure.I bought a pack of 100 to try the new color (ember) and save some money per ball, but to my disappointment the entire pack was softer than I've come to expect from other X-40 balls.I'll be returning them and I reached out to Franklin to let them know the details of my shipment. Big disappointment! ## Frequently Bought Together - Franklin Sports X-40 Outdoor Pickleballs - Official Ball of USA Pickleball, APP Tour + Pickleball US Open - 3 Packs, 12 Packs, 36 Pickleball Buckets, 50, 100 + 400 Bulk Packs of Regulation Pickleballs - Vatic Pro Prism Carbon Fiber 16mm - Foam Injected Walls - Includes Paddle Cover - Mangrove Pickleball Bag, Men's & Women's Pickleball Backpack, Adjustable Sling Bag w/Fence Hook/Large Capacity/Safety Pocket --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/724868194-franklin-sports-outdoor-pickleballs-x-40-pickleball-balls-usa-pickleball](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/724868194-franklin-sports-outdoor-pickleballs-x-40-pickleball-balls-usa-pickleball) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-14*
