Best $250 Iโve spent in a long time
Unbelievable!!! I am not tech savvy, but when it came to how to set this up, there were plenty of videos and walk through guides on how to set up all the emulators and a really beautiful front end. The gameplay is just excellent and I cannot wait to play every system! Still having a bit of trouble setting up a few systems, but itโs only because I havenโt had the time to trouble shoot some of the mistakes I made setting up the front end. If youโre looking for something preloaded with thousands of games, this isnโt the system for you. If youโre looking for a system that you can easily customize and play all the games you never got to play from your childhoodโฆ. THIS IS IT!!! Side note: I got the black version. The smudges in the glass are almost unnoticeable and the aspect ratio change is imperceptible.

Honest and in depth review
The device can be a bit tricky to set up at first, especially if you're new to emulation or Android handhelds, but once you get everything dialed in, it is so worth it. Performance is solid across a wide range of systems, and the ability to tweak settings gives you a lot of control over how games run. Battery life is also pretty respectable as you can get around 10 hours on lighter systems like GBA or SNES, while more demanding emulation brings it closer to 3โ4 hours. That range makes it versatile depending on how you use it. The size is another big win. With a 5.5-inch screen, it feels large enough to enjoy games comfortably, but still compact enough to stay portable. It hits a sweet spot between screen real estate and easy carry. Best part is, you do not feel the heat in the device while playing. Overall, the Retroid Pocket 5 is one of the best value handhelds out right now. Itโs not perfect as thereโs a learning curve and ergonomics could be better but if youโre willing to spend a little time setting it up, youโre getting a powerful, flexible, and highly portable gaming device for the price. If you want a budget and powerful device, this is for you. Specs: CPU: Snapdragon 865 RAM: 8GB LPDDR4 Internal Storage: 128GB (Expendable storage) Screen: AMOLED Battery: 5000 mAh System: Android 13

RP5, my new bestie
Great device! Excellent battery life. There is a bit of setup required to get it going, as far as emulators are concerned but I have been able to play everything up to PS2, GameCube, even some Switch titles (LEGALLY OF COURSE).... Runs Xbox Remote play with grace and a good internet connection. Steam games play wonderfully via Moonlight, and if you're brave and patient enough Gamehub works great too. Build quality is excellent, device feels solid and substantial. OLED screen is amazing and brings life to older games and newer alike. Buttons feel great, good quality push to them. Sticks are hall effect and feel good and not cheap or stubby. Plays android games of course via Google Play Store. One thing to be aware of, I have larger hands and they can get a little cramped with the device after awhile. I would suggest getting the case addon that extends handles out much like a controller, well worth the money.

Cheaper Steamdeck alternative, with some issues
Decent little device. Nice screen. Sub-optimal switch-style button layout, but it works. Feels well built, light but sturdy. I bought mine mostly just to be an indie Steamdeck alternative and Steam Link streaming device when at home. For the latter, it works good, assuming you can get a good 5GHz wifi connection. For the former, it's hit and miss. I use GameNative to interface with Steam (this is how I play the majority of my games on this system so keep this in mind going forward here). It works well, for the most part. It does cloud saves and achievements and all that. Some games have trouble, for most you'll have to tinker with the settings to get going. It's definitely not a 1-step easy peasy install-and-you're-good-to-go process for most games. There's an "Apply Known Config" option for easy setup, but I find it doesn't work half the time. The bigger issue, however, is that if you're planning to install and play games via SD card, you're going to run into some data bottlenecking. Primarily, the SD card hardware on this machine is not great. The read/write speed is somewhat slow, though I have no hard data on this. Downloading takes forever, and some games take several minutes to load up--this depends heavily on the game, some load fairly swiftly. But I know it is the hardware because I've run games on my Switch with the same, or similar, A2 SD cards and never had issues, and transferring files via PC (the better way of getting games onto your system, instead of downloading) also doesn't take long either. So some games will need to be installed locally on the device if you don't want to wait forever on the loading times with certain games (most load fine, or "could be better" sort of fine). It's a great system, but a shame that the SD card data rates seem too slow for a few select games. It can be a cheaper Steam Deck alternative, but the extra price you pay is the time you'll spend tinkering with settings to get games working properly.

Amazing device, one small (imo) drawback
I bought it a few weeks ago and honestly only have one complaint which ill adress at the end. For starters this thing is damn amazing at everything it does, and it does a lot, its so powerful you can play older pc games as well as older console and modern android games with some modern pc game ports, my favorites of that last category in specific are alien isolation and subnautica, both can and will run at 60fps smoothly when set to do so. The battery lasts for days on end when in lower gaming situations, and on high it will last an entire day damn near, i love this device. i dropped it accidentally and it bounced, it was outside and it fell out of my bag when traveling, absolutely took it like a champ, no cracked screen and it landed on it directly, not even a scratch, only a small scuff on the triggers and the palm rests, thats all. Amazing device super easy to use and customize i just wish it didnt restart itself every 30 seconds when the screen is just sitting off, sometimes ill have it sitting at a spot in a game that i wanted to save and it will restart without my consent, it doesnt do it often when games are active or background processes are running, its as if the device is restarting to make sure its still operational, unsure what that issue is caused from however that is honestly my only complaint, the rest is nothing but love and joy for this device, its amazing

Lots and lots of switch games!
Amazing! Playing lots of switch games that emulate perfectly. Iโm into rogue lite/like and retro arcade games so thereโs lots of switch games that play. Itโs all hit and miss but Iโm shocked and excited by how many do. It seemed like some reviewers were completely discounting switch emulation with this machine. Iโm not sure what games they were trying but Iโm satisfied with the selection that do run! In my experience over 70% of roms run well! Itโs not quite as good as the steam deck in putting a game to sleep and then waking it up but I itโs close. Android has come a very long way in that department (Iโve been an Apple user for years now). The black colored one is awesome at hiding the black side bars of non 16x9 games. It plays all the Android games, plus every console up to the switch. It plays most PS2 and GameCube games and lots of the Switch games, and then pretty much everything else. Call me happy! Iโm not gonna lie, setting it up completely takes time, but if youโre like me thatโs part of the handheld emulation game. I actually enjoy taking the time in getting it set up perfectly. So if youโre looking for something all setup and ready to go look elsewhere. This wonโt be the handheld for you. If your looking for something with these specs that needs setup from scratch and can provide your own roms you canโt find a better handheld for the money!

My only complaint is that it's not a Retroid Pocket 6.
That said, it still handles emulation like a champ. If you're looking to play some higher end mobile games like Zenless Zone Zero and Wuwa, they both work fine with medium settings. If I had the budget it for it, I would have gone for the Pocket 6, but the pocket 5 is more than serviceable, feels premium. This is the no brainier choice if you're someone who wants to get into emulation handhelds, but are leery of some of the mid range options like the Android based Anbernic devices. Especially on a sale.

Absolute best retro game console
I did a lot of research before hand and got this for a Xmas present for my teen. This is by far the most affordable and best quality retro game console. Itโs actually consistently on top five list and considered a mid price but functions like a very top end system. It fits perfectly in my sonโs large man sized hands comfortably. It sets up easily and is very sleek. It plays all his favorite games and heโs so happy! A big win for this mama!

Perfect emulation device
This thing is a beast, it can handle more than I thought it could. You can emulate pretty much everything up to Switch. You can even play PC games on it if you know what you're doing. The potential is really amazing if you take the time to tinker with it. But even if you don't tinker much you can easily set it up to play lots of old games. Also great for native Android games. The screen is incredible, so vivid and bright. Ergonomics could be better but it's still fine, you can buy or 3D print a grip if needed. Body feels very premium. Just such a great little device, worth every penny.

A Truly Amazing Handheld Console
This is a pretty pricey console. Fortunately part of my payment came from gift cards I've been saving up so it wasn't as expensive for me. It takes some fiddling to get this console to work but once you do it works great. I recommend looking up a guide to get it set up. I also advise anyone to have a micro sd card with them containing the largest memory available. Either 512GB or 1TB will do the trick. While I haven't use all of the features on it, the emulators I did try (PS1 and PSP) work just fine with no problems. If you can afford it, get it you won't be disappointed.
