Traditionally! Back in india my grand mom and mom warms the oil and add all the ingredients to hot oil and sim, keep stirring the oil till see the ingredients leaving color to the oil. Be careful not to burn the ingredients. Once see color change and smell changes, off the boiling oil and keep it aside. After it comes down to cold transfer it to another container. Choice is yours if you want to strain it or use the whole.. Apply it root to tip of hair and tie steaming tower.

Can castor oil be used instead of coconut oil?

This can be infused in any oil of your choice. Coconut is advised because of its adsorption properties and its ability to absorb into the hair shaft. While castor oil is beneficial, there are different oils that would serve as a better carrier oil because they are not as heavy ie.  jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, or olive oil

Can this be left in or does it have to be washed out? I purchased it but there are no instructions on how to use.

You may leave in herbal oil after each use, whether you apply daily or every other day.. Wash out on your Wash Day...

You list 10 herbs but the 8 vital herbs for hair care. What are the eight remaining herbs not listed?

I think that was an old packaging but the new one list all 18 vital herbs.They are as follows: Avarampoo ,Valampuri , Edampuri ,Kadukkai , Khus Khus, Velankuchi Ver, Rose petal, Althimaduram, Pulankilangu, Carboga arisi, Vebalam Pattai, Karunjeerakam , Maruthani Vithai, Nelli, Vasambu, Sadamanji, Makilampoo and Samangi Vithai
