Is the brown stuff in the container food?

Yes. It is food. Set with food at top. Remove lid and get rid of waste daily. They grow faster the warmer it is.

What kind of food do you give them ? I want to keep growing them more

I bought hornworm food it’s kind of tough to make it the way they do if not you can feed them lettuce or spinach just have to make sure you keep it fresh so it doesn’t stink

I live in portland, or but every time i try to purchase these it says it can't deliver to my location. what's up with that?

They won’t survive in cold weather. You can look online for live insects that will ship to you

Will they seriously arrive that late?

They arrive way too late and are dead upon arrival. Look online for the live insect businesses
