"Higher" Low Notes Make This Perfect for Music
We received this subwoofer yesterday and tried it extensively today. We own a pair of small speakers in back which, though good overall, suffer from the usual imperfections of outdoor listening. This clear, efficient woofer fills the gap. [Yes, any speaker now can be used outdoors. Protective spray coatings are available, or weatherproof fabric covers can be ordered to fit any size and shape of speaker cabinet.] Since the Sony SA-CS9 allows a frequency range from 28 Hz, adjustable to as high as 200 Hz, it reaches further up into the "mid-bass" range than the usual 125 Hz cut-off. This benefit renders the Sony sub perfect for music, even paired with very small speakers. We reduce their bass output from the amp's tone control, allowing the sub to make up the difference. Even heard at a soft volume, outdoor (or indoor) music displays more richness and accuracy, without disturbing the neighbors. This wide-range subwoofer is a great find. From my results so far, i would recommend it without any doubt! // Some Features: Adjustable crossover and volume; optional automatic on/off; 115 watts RMS (200 peak) active output; fiber cone (not paper); sturdy cabinet; relatively compact size; ported design; simple, flexible set-up; low price; high-quality sound.

Sony SACS9 - Best of the Bunch
I bought this subwoofer sight unseen and without the showroom testing that others have gone through. I did this mainly because audio equipment showrooms are sparse in my locale - there's Walmart and then it's quite a step down to Sears. Not much to pick and choose from. So, I had to rely mostly on online technical reviews and customer satisfaction reviews. My choices boiled down to the Sony SACS9, Klipsch R-10SW, Polk Audio PSW10, and JBL Arena S10. The Klipsch was the first to be eliminated, based solely on budget reasons. If I had more money to spend, maybe I would have chosen it. Next to be eliminated was the popular Polk PSW10. It seemed to me to be the "plain Jane" of the group - a good solid performer, but nothing really outstanding. So, the final choice boiled down to the Sony SACS9 or the JBL Arena S10. The Sony had the advantage of frequency range. The JBL had the advantage in crispness. Since my needs were broad - the speaker is being used not just for music but for AV multimedia purposes - I chose the more versatile Sony. If I had been purchasing the speaker solely for music, I would have chosen the JBL. Of course, the fact that the Sony's were on sale for $20 less than the JBL certainly swayed my decision some. The Sony SACS9 was delivered to my home late last week and I added it to my 5.1 system, which includes an Onkyo TX-NR656 receiver, a pair of Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers, and a Sony SSCS8 center channel speaker. I'm awaiting shipment of a pair of JBL Arena B15 bookshelf speakers. So far, I'm very happy with how all the components of the system match. They not only work well together acoustically, but they also fit the rather tight confines of the room that I'm using (a converted patio, 8' x 20'). The Sony SACS9 happened to be the smallest of the 4 subwoofers that I was comparing by about 23%. That's given me more options as to where I want it placed and positioned. Performance-wise, the SACS9 sounds great to me. It fills out the bass and sub-bass spectra that would otherwise be missing from my system. And it's plenty loud for my setup. I'm still playing around with the bass volume control, frequency pass-through/cut-off level, speaker balance control, speaker direction, and speaker location. There's plenty of capacity and flexibility built into the speaker to satisfy its listeners. I spent a total of $603 for my 5.1 AV sound system, including the receiver and speakers; plus an additional $48 for speaker wire, banana plugs, and speaker mounting hardware. It's the best system that I could put together within my budget. It fulfills all of my present needs. Hopefully, it is sufficiently "future-proofed" so that it will continue to pay dividends for years to come.

Excellent Subwoofer, Excellent Service!
This is a very reasonable subwoofer for the price. It has clean sound, a built-in amplifier (it's an "active" subwoofer), controls for amplifier gain (volume) and cutoff frequency, and an energy-saving mode that turns it off automatically when not in use. It's of reasonable size, matches the other Sony-branded components and speakers, and looks good. I ordered this as a second sub to increase the amount of bass in a very big room. It stacked perfectly on top of an identical unit that I bought originally with the amp and speaker set. NOW, a shout out to the seller, who provided awesome service: There was a small cosmetic problem with the sub when I received it, possibly due to rough handling during shipping; the seller responded immediately and corrected the problem without question. Excellent service by seller! I would definitely order from this seller again.

Pretty Good for the Price
This subwoofer (SACS9) has good frequency range and quality sound but the wattage is weak. This isn't an issue for me as I'm primarily using it on my stereo for jazz and classical music but if you're looking for a powerful thumper I wouldn't consider this one. I have to turn its volume all the way up and boost the bass a little on my receiver to get the level I want. I enjoy the hz cuttoff and tuning options. Still fiddling with its placement so maybe my impressions are slightly off but it seems like a high quality speaker with good sound that just lacks some power. Not a problem for me but could be for others.

I'm thrilled with the Sony SACS9 10-Inch Active Subwoofer
Keeping this as short as possible... 1) I wish the SACS9 had binding posts that would accept banana plugs, instead of spring-clip terminals. 2) I wish the SACS9 had an autopower function that actually worked correctly. (Mine stays on for about three minutes after turning off my amp, and refuses to come back on when I turn my amp on, later - so I'm having to turn it on and off manually.) 3) But I absolutely LOVE this subwoofer, otherwise. It's crossover network is doing a great job of passing the higher frequencies to my Definitive Technology SM45 bookshelf speakers (https://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Technology-SM45-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B005XXMMG4/), without degrading the signal in any way and by offloading the heavy work of driving the lower frequencies to the Sony's 10-inch driver, my SM45s are faster and more accurate in the mids and highs, than they were when they were trying to handle the lows. 4) The Sony SACS9 has terrific speed and pitch discernment - it's not in the least bit "honky" at any particular bass frequency. Recordings having a lot of content down in the low frequencies really sound musical, rather than simply percussive, as is so often the case with poor bass handling. For the record, my DAC is a Centrance DACmini CX taking a USB input from a Windows 10 machine playing 44.1kHz/16-bit FLACS streamed from Tidal HiFi or 96kHz/24-bit FLACs played with Foobar2000. The DACmini feeds a TBI Millenia MG3 Class BD Integrated Amplfier, that is now connected to the SACS9 via 12-guage stranded copper cables (nothing special) and from there, to the SM45 bookshelf speakers (in a near-field monitor setup, on either side of my PC). The SACS9 is sitting about 20 inches behind a 27-inch 4k display, with another six inches to the wall behind it - at the same height as the SM45s. I'm really thrilled with the impact the Sony SACS9 has had on the sound - still enjoying a rediscovery of my favorite tunes.

WOW
I’ve been using a sub in my set up since the 90’s but it was time for a new one. Did lots of research, read lots of reviews and decided to go with this one because I like Sony, It had everything I was looking for and it did not break the bank. This was my first active sub so I had to do some research on how to use this thing. I got it, connected it and WOW, I have never heard such amazing bass before. This thing allowed me to dial in the right amount of thunder I wanted. It matched with a vintage pair of Optimus bookshelf speakers and made a truly amazing spectrum of sound. Made these speakers sound high end and add life to my old records. I thought I knew about sound, but this sub totally breathed new life into my old gear. I highly recommend this box of boom. Sony has lasted the test of time and if your like me , that can’t afford to spend a thousand bucks on a sub, then check this on one out, you won’t be disappointed.

VERY Good Sub.
I bought this to pair up with a new Pioneer HDMI 4K 5.1 surround receiver that required a powered subwoofer. (My previous set-up was a 2005 pre-HDMI Yamaha receiver that ran the sub off of the receiver's amps.) And I can tell you that this sub packs a damn good punch. I have my "home theater system" in my bedroom which is a converted single car garage. And when you get those long really low LFE hits in movies like that one shot in 2007's Transformers when Ironhide uses his arm cannons to "bounce" off the ground, the LFE came across very good in that instant. And this was from the regular Blu-ray, not the 4K disc (which I intend to get very soon.)

Amazon Audiophile System For Around $600.00
I wanted to see what type of audiophile system one could build with the existing offered products on Amazon. I'm a 65 year old collector of vintage audio equipment and have amassed some very nice high end audio. Does that make my ears/listening perfect....NO....Pleasure of listening is in the ears of the beholder....but, I think I know what sounds good after all these years. All these products can be obtained right here on Amazon....my go to for just about "anything". I had zero issues hooking the system up and "zero" issues with the performance they provided. I was truly amazed at how good this system sounded. I would...and will....give each of these products, a "Five Star" rating. Bastante bien

Great product
It can produce huge bass. I found the width of this subwoofer is bit compact compare to other brand 10 inch sub, so i picked this one so I could fit it at my desired spot. Please note that the dimension in the seller product description is incorrect, instead check it from Sony’s manual for this sub model number, that one is accurate. However, even it is compact, but the brand name Sony is very trustable, so the bass quality is excellent. I was kinda indecision mode for the first few days comparing this to old 8 inch sub. But this turned out to be great after few days of use, probably it was the break in period. I have a mid sized living room, and this is more than enough for me. I never needed to run it on max power. I was confused at the beginning that the speaker sticker said it is 70 watt but the Sony website and the seller said it is 115 watt, I posted a question there, they removed the confusion by describing the fact about the audio watt and the built in amplifier electrical power wattage. Overall, it’s a great product.

My rating is really a 3.5/5, Here's why...
In short, this sub won't melt faces, or even annoy your neighbor Ted, but if you're looking for an economical solution to add a little extra thump to your home setup, this sub fits the bill just fine. For the average home user, this sub is really all you need to fill out the bottom end in your music, movies, games and so on. PROS: It's handsome, good frequency range, features (kind of) and sound quality. It also has (IMO) quite adequate power output for the average home user, as lets face it - no one really wants to rattle pictures of Aunt Betty off the wall. CONS: The power saving feature is annoying. I realize you don't have to use it, but that would also be annoying. My issue is, when the sub isn't getting enough of a bass signal sent to it, or no signal at all, it powers off, which is exactly what it is supposed to do in that mode, however, this can become annoying for things like: watching youtube, or spoken word type shows with little music. It's also problematic if you like to listen to vinyl records, as often I find when a record is done, and I get up to put on another one, by the time I swap out the album for another, the sub has powered off. Not a huge deal, as it always turns right back on again when it is sent signal, but it's a little annoying. If you could set it to "wait" a longer duration before powering off, it would help, but as it is now, it's too short. Summary? Buy it, and blast Biggie Smalls until you feel like it's 1994 all over again.
